It is a good day for the team behindEverything Everywhere All at Once. The film leads with 11 nominations for the 95th annual Academy Awards. One of the most prominent categories to be featured in is Best Picture. The sci-fi adventure secured its place alongside other big names from the year, includingTop Gun: MaverickandAvatar: The Way of Water.

A total of 10 nominated films are in the race for the Best Picture crown. Everything Everywhere All at Oncedominated the nominations for most of the big categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress in a leading role for Michelle Yeoh, Best Supporting Actress for both Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu, Best Supporting actor for Ke Huy Quan, and Best Original Screenplay, among others. Yeoh’s nomination is a remarkable one, as she is the first woman who identifies as Asian that has been nominated for the category of Best Actress at the Academy Awards.

Top Gun: MaverickandAvatar: The Way of Waterhave been in a bit of a battle since the latter film was released. For the longest time, Tom Cruise’s return as the courageous pilot Maverick ruled the box office in 2022. However,Avatar: The Way of Waterdethroned the film to become the highest-grossing film of 2022 just as the year ended. Reports show thatAvatar 2earned over $2 billion worldwide, compared toTop Gun: Maverick’s $1.49 billion since its May 2022 release. Now, the films will battle for the best picture throne.

Apart from these three commercially-successful films, the list includes seven other titles. These includeAll Quiet on the Western FrontandThe Banshees of Inisherin, which had nine nominations each. Furthermore, Steven Spielberg’sThe Fabelmansalso made it to the list and had seven total nominations. The Best Picture list includedElvis,Tar,Triangle of Sadness, andWomen Talking.
