In an industry full of triple AAA developers, gamers often look towardindie games, since they usually give players a new experience, not the same generic game mechanics most triple AAA games are known for. Games likeStrayallow players to view and interact in a futuristic world while playing as a cat. And despiteStraybeing relatively short, most gamers already revere it as one of the best indie releases in recent years.

Another indie game that has gained a particular following isOrcs Must Die! 3, the 3rd installment of theOrcs Must Die!game series (not including the MMO). This indie title features tower defense-like mechanics while allowing players to choose from awide array of heroesthat they can use to defend The Rift. But, Robot Entertainment added more items for players to use, such as weapons, trinkets, and spells. When it comes to trinkets, players do well in learning which one will let them mow down hordes of orcs without breaking a sweat.

7Cyclopean Gaze

Acquisition:

Once players reach higher stages inOrcs Must Die 3!they’ll notice that the number of orcs quickly multiplies, so avoiding getting hit becomes near-impossible. Fortunately, players can equip the Cyclopean Gaze trinket since it turns players into stone, thus protecting them from any damage for 10-seconds.

At the same time, enemies that hit the player while they’re “stoned” will have a 50% chance of causing them to become petrified for 3-seconds (players can increase the chances to 100% by upgrading the trinket with Skulls.) Unfortunately, this trinket doesn’t “de-aggro” enemies, which means enemies will continue to pile up on the player. If it weren’t for that unfortunate mechanic, the Cyclopean Gaze would rank higher in thisOrcs Must Die! 3trinket tier list.

6Reptilian Carapace

One of the most challenging game modes inOrcs Must Die! 3is Endless Mode, which lets players fight off unending hordes of orcs until they perish, or The Rift is breached. As players pass each stage, stronger enemies begin to appear, some of which have powerful attacks that will tear the player to shreds. That’s why the Reptilian Carapace is a must-have trinket since it has a passive ability that reduces 50% damage (70% once players upgrade it).

Moreover, it has an active ability that creates a bubble, which prevents projectiles and enemies from entering for 12-seconds (similar to Baldur Shell charm inHollow Knight). This trinket is perfect for players who like to use weapons like the Blunderbuss, which has effective single target damage but suffers from slow reload speed.

5Jar of Ghosts

Players that often find themselves surrounded by enemies will find using the Jar of Ghosts trinket extremely helpful since it causes enemies to flee in fear once they hit the player. Additionally, its active skill unleashes a cloud of fear that causes enemies within ten tiles to run away for 3-seconds.

The downside of using Jar of Ghosts is that not all enemies are affected by it. For example, ranged or boss-type enemies will negate its effect, so players should be extra careful if the current stage features many of them. Players can increase the fear duration by upgrading the Jar of Ghosts by 2-seconds (5-seconds in total).

4Healing Trinket

Some enemies like Fire Elementals or Fire Mages can wreak havoc on players due to their DoT attacks. And since there’s only a tiny chance of enemies dropping HP potions, players must be extra careful if they want toearn 5 Skulls on any stage. But, with the Healing Trinket, players won’t have to pray to the RNG gods to get an HP potion since it grants passive HP regain (1.25hp per second).

On top of that, players can activate the Healing Trinket’s active skill to instantly regain 100 HP (150 HP at max level.) But, of course, the main downside of this trinket is that its active skill has a long cooldown period (60 seconds).

3Mana Rage Trinket

Players that enjoy playing as Egan or Cygnus will want to use the Mana Rage Trinket since its active skill recovers 25 Mana per second for 8-seconds. But, the real benefit of using the Mana Rage Trinket is that its passive ability increases a hero’s Mana pool by 33%.

Once players max this trinket, the first skill they useafterusing the active skill consumes zero Mana. Players can use this trinket on heroes with high HP (Vorwick or Kelsey) but low Mana capacity, thus creating a tanky mage hero.

2Empty Rift

Nothing is more impressive than completing a difficult stage without a single orc stepping into The Rift. Accomplishing this feat is similar toCuphead: The Delicious Last Course’sS-Rank grade, extremely challenging and sometimes almost impossible. The good news is that the Empty Rift trinket gives players a helping hand while completing a stage without a single breach.

Its passive skill increases the overall amount of Rift points players start with, which will give them a chance of getting a perfect score. The Empty Rift’s active skill is what makes this trinket the second best inOrcs Must Die! 3,since it makes all enemies worth 0 Rift points for 10-seconds, so players can use it in a pinch if some orcs manage to pass the traps.

1Trap Reset Trinket

Traps are the bread and butter forOrcs Must Die! 3,since they can make defeating hordes of orcs all the easier. However, even though this 3rd installment features powerful and useful traps, many of them have long cooldowns even after players upgrade them. The good news is that Robot Entertainment added a trinket that passively lowers the cooldown of all traps by 10% (up to 20% once maxed).

On top of that, its active skill heals all Barricades, which can turn the tide in more challenging stages. Undoubtedly, the Trap Reset Trinket is the best trinket inOrcs Must Die! 3,since traps are the main source of damage in the game.
