Summary
The world ofOne Piecehas seen an influx of pirates in the Great Pirate Era. Every single pirate is currently aiming for the grandest of all treasures, theOne Piece. Given that the treasure belongs to the greatest of all pirates, it is understandable why the seas are infested with pirates right now. However, pirates have always existed in theOne Pieceworld, even before the Great Pirate Era started.
In fact, thereare numerous legendary figuresthat have existed before Roger even started this era and a lot of them even ended up dying long before this era came to be.
5Jorul
Jorul was one of the two amazing and legendary captains of the Giant Warrior Pirates. Being of the Giant race, he hailedfrom the island of Elbaf. They were first seen in Big Mom’s flashback. However, at this point, both Jorul and Jarul were quite old, and, as a result, weakened tremendously. Despite that, their strength was incredible. However, compared to a calamity such as Linlin, they did not stand much of a chance when she rampaged one day and ended up killing Jorul in the process.
In his prime, Jorul would have been an incredible pirate. The Giant Warrior Pirates have always been famed for their legendary strength. In fact, this race is believed to be the strongest in the entire world and their legendary captain who even Hajrudin looked up to until recently would certainly have been quite a figure when young.
4Captain John
Captain John is a mysterious pirate who fans do not know much about. He was first introduced during the Thriller Bark arc properly, however, only as a zombie. His body was shown to the fans, however, the real Captain John, who existed during the era of the Rocks Pirates, has never made an appearance in the story. It is safe to say that Captain John was a phenomenal pirate, given the fact that even legendary Marines such as Sengoku hold him in quite high regard.
His treasure is also craved by many pirates, such as Buggy, and quite a lot of others as well. Captain John died, likely in mutiny, and he had multiple swords stuck in his body. Hopefully, Oda will expand upon the adventures of Captain John in the future, however, at the moment, fans only know that this legendary pirate died at some point before the beginning of the Great Pirate Era.
3Rocks D. Xebec
Rocks is quite clearly one of the biggest legends in the world ofOne Piece.Fans have not actually seen this pirate properly yet, however, his exploits are enough to give him the title of a legend. Rocks ruled the seas all alone nearly 40 years ago in theOne Pieceworld. He was such a power that nobody on the seas could contend with him. In fact, Rocks is believed to be the greatest enemy that Roger has ever fought, even greater than Whitebeard.
His strength was such that Roger had to combine his power with that of Garp and only then could he be overcome. He was crushed in God Valley, 38 years ago. However, history remembers him as a legendary pirate whose strength was greater than any other.
2Gol D. Roger
Roger is quite easily one of the strongest piratesto have ever lived in theOne Pieceworld and, when it comes to reputation and infamy, he is the greatest. Roger took the world by storm over 3 decades ago and continues to grow with time. He acquired all the Poneglyphs and built up his strength to a point where he was worthy of becoming the Pirate King. Roger was the first man in 800 years to get to Laugh Tale.
He was crowned as the Pirate King and he died in the same place where he was born, Loguetown. Roger was the last legendary pirate to die before the Great Pirate Era began. This is simply down to the fact that he was the one who ushered in this great age with his dying words, driving countless pirates to the seas.
1Joyboy
Quite easily, the most legendary figure to have existed before the Great Pirate Era is Joyboy. Joyboy lived over 800 years ago and is believed to have been a legendary figure who’salso renowned by the name of Nika.He was a hero to slaves and was worshiped as the Sun God. It is believed that he always had a smile on his face and he helped everyone around him. Joyboy is not confirmed to be a pirate, per se, however, fans know that he most likely would have been.
It is unknown how he died, however, he likely fell in the war against the 20 Kingdoms who combined their strength to battle him and the Ancient Kingdom. Hopefully, Oda will soon reveal more information about Joyboy and the life he lived during the Void Century.
