Nioh 2, much like the originalNioh, is somewhat flying under the radar. TheSouls-like RPG is still on schedule for release in March, managing the avoid the sweep of recent delays. It’s also looking better and better in early marketing materials. Developer Team Ninja is even ready to start talking about post-launch plans forNioh 2. The studio announced today thatNioh 2will be receiving substantial DLC support, including three story-based expansions.
According to today’s announcement, each of the three story expansions will bet set prior to the events ofNioh 2itself. They’ll serve as prequel stories of sorts, which should makeNioh 2buyers confident that they’ll experience the full story in the base game. There won’t be extra endings released as DLC. Each DLC pack will include a different storyline including main missions and submissions, as well as “new weapons, new combat abilities, and new characters.”

The Season Pass will be available on its own or it can be purchased as part of one ofNioh 2’s premium bundles. TheNioh 2Digital Deluxe Edition bundles both the base game and the season pass together, as well as some pre-order bonuses, for $79.99. In addition toNioh 2’s post-launch content announcement, Team Ninja also released anew story trailerfor the game. The trailer doesn’t provide a particularly focused look atNioh 2’s story, other than its seeming ties to the mysterious Spirit Stones. Rather, it jumps around quite a bit, teasing various important characters from throughout the story. These characters are as unique and interesting as aNiohorDark Soulsfan would expect from the sequel.
The announcement post for theNioh 2storytrailer adds some further context. The game takes place in the year 1555, a time when Japan was in a state of constant war and demons infested the land. The game’s protagonist is a demon hunter, but also half-demon. Their quest is to collect the powerful spirit stones which are oddly tied to Hideyoshi’s power, which could change the future for the war-torn country.
