Tyler “Ninja” Blevins is one of the biggestFortnitestreamers in the world, and the online entertainment icon was brought up during a segment on CNBC due to his affiliation withMixer. One of the analysts made the claim that nobody knows what Ninja’s real name is, and he responded in a hilarious way.
Up until recently, Blevins has been streaming on the platformMixer. However, Microsoft has decided to shut down the streaming service and partner with Facebook Gaming instead. Microsoft made it clear that if streamers currently on Mixer transfer their platforms toFacebook Gaming, they would receive a partnership with the social media’s streaming service. While Blevins has professed that he will not make the move to Facebook Gaming, he’s still closely tied to Mixer during this transition as one of the biggest streamers on Microsoft’s streaming service.

Due to the drama happening with these streaming services, analysts during CNBC’s financial segment brought up the current market value of Amazon’sTwitch. While this was being discussed, internet and media analyst Laura Martin mentioned Ninja at one point, and made the claim that “he has a real name, but no one knows what it is.” The way she said this led viewers to believe that Martin seriously believed what she was saying.
The clip quickly went viral on Twitter, and many people were making jokes about the analyst’s poorly researched comment. Eventually, this clip made its way to Ninja himself, and instead of going off on her on-air mistake, he also made a joke about it. He retweeted the clip with a commonly used GIF of Pablo Escobar from the Netflix seriesNarcos, and with that simple set of images, conveyed his emotions in a way that his viewers could find funny while still understanding what he was trying to say.
While Blevins may have responded in jest, the CNBC analyst’s comment has gone against the huge amount of effort that he has put in to becoming a household name in gaming culture. Even thoughNinjahad done an interview with the network before in which they clearly showed his real name, the analyst still didn’t know as much about the gaming streamer as she should with her title.
