Like many MMO games, items inNew Worldhave durability, and after wearing them down, they need to be repaired. Though this is a common feature in MMOs,New Worldtakes a new approach, and when a player dies, all items take durability damage, not just the ones equipped. This is leading frustrated players to speak out on the issue, but not all agree.
Since its release, first-time MMO publisher Amazon has received a lot of success forNew World. It wasn’t long before the game had reached close to the player base ofWorld of Warcraft. However, there are still a lot of bugs and issues with the mechanics in the game that should be addressed. Some problems are as simple asNew World’s map icons growing to ridiculous sizes, while others have players are sliding across the map.

Fans of the game have taken to Reddit to discuss the issues with the durability of the gear when a player dies. Currently, when a character dies, all equipment the character has in their inventory and equipped will take a durability hit. This includes items the player had planned to sell and is not equipped with at the time of death. This issue leads players to fix a weapon before selling it, simply for having it in their bag when they meet their demise in a dungeon or elsewhere. These repairs can be rather costly when also considering the fee for listing an item.
Many players suggest a fix for the system by making only equipped gear affected by this penalty, with the addition that equipment cannot be unequipped during battle. This would leave players with the ability to swap weapons still but keep them from avoiding the penalty by unequipping everything. Though this sounds like a logical solution, other players have started usingdeath as an alternative to fast travelsince repair packs are cheaper than Azoth. The players using death as a free taxi to towns are still penalized by their character’s death, but some suggest it is worth the price to avoid thehigh Azoth costs of fast travel.
All of these issues further go intocomplaints aboutNew World’s in-game economyand difficulty keeping Azoth on hand, which is also used for crafting. Overall, there are a lot of bugs and issues players are finding, though this isn’t uncommon for new games.New Worldhas been out nearly a month, and though there are some issues, players continue to log in to see what thegame holds for them.
