The beloved yet often controversial series has often been able to comment on current affairs almost as they occur, with episodes only taking a few weeks to produce.South Parkthrough the pandemic has made multiple specials and episodes based around COVID-19. Now,South Parkis looking to further expand its list of video games.
Announced last year,South Parkcreators Trey Parker and Matt Stone signed a new funding deal with ViacomCBS, which, among other things, supported the funding of a newSouth Parkvideo game.South Parkhas previously had nine videogames since it began in the late 1990s, though few garnered as much attention asSouth Park: The Stick of Truth, and its sequel,South Park: The Fractured But Whole.The Stick of Truthwas released back in 2014, and was developed by RPG veterans Obsidian Entertainment, creators ofThe Outer WorldsandFallout: New Vegas.

Obsidian has since dropped out of the development process for the followingSouth Parkgames, and while it has been previously reported that the new game will be developed “in-house” by South Park Digital Studios, a new job listing has revealed the studio that will be working alongside South Park Digital. The developer for the newSouth Parkgame will likely be Question Games, a relatively small studio previously known for the imaginative and wittyThe Magic Circle.
This news comes from a job listing posted to Question Games' official Twitter, which reveals that the developer is seeking a Lead Level Designer to “work on a new video game set in the world of South Park,” making it highly likely that the studio are working on the game revealed to be in the works last year. While Question Games may not have a long, established track record of producing games, the studio is made up of individuals who have worked onDishonored,BioShock, and theprevious twoSouth Parkgames, making the team at least seem qualified for the job.
While details are extremey scarce on the newSouth Parkgame, hidden within the job listing at Question are some interesting details, such as the need to have shipped one multiplayer game as a requirement for the job role. This has led many fans to speculate that the newSouth Parktitle will be making the jump to multiplayer, though only time will tell if this rings true.
