2021 is looking to be quite the year for major anniversaries. This year already marked the 35th anniversary for theSuper Marioseries, and Nintendo fans are very eager to see what the company has planned forthe 35th anniversary forLegend of Zeldaand 25th anniversary forPokemonnext year. Meanwhile, it looks like Capcom is already gearing up to celebrate the 25th anniversary of itsResident Evilseries.
Announced during New York Comic Con’s MetaVerse online event,Resident Evilwill be receiving a manga that is aiming to release next year so as to tie-in with the aforementioned anniversary, courtesy of American publishing company Tokyopop.

No exact story details were shared, but what we do know is that it won’t be adapting the plot of any of the games and is instead a tie-in to the upcoming animated Netflix show,Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, and will also focus on recurring protagonists Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, both of whom being the stars ofInfinite Darkness.
This admittedly isn’t much to go on as we know barely anything about the show as well, outside of the two leads and it also releasing in 2021. It’s also not clear whether the manga will adapt and/or retell the events of the show or tell its own original story that is linked toInfinite Darkness.
While details may be scarce, fans still have plenty to look forward to in the future, as Capcom has numerous other projects related to the series in the pipeline. Firstly, the new gameResident Evil Villagewill be releasing next year as both a continuation of the story that began inResident Evil 7and as the series' debut on next gen hardware.
Secondly, a new live-action movie that will be acting as a reboot and not follow the continuity of the Paul W.S. Anderson movies was announced last year. More recently, a cast list was revealed, confirming that a number of familiar faces from the games,like Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, will be making an appearance in what is being described as an origin story for the series.
Thirdly,another Netflix show is in production, which will be live-action and also tell its own story, one that centers around the two daughters of series villain Albert Wesker as they arrive in New Raccoon City.
There is alsotheResident Evil 4remakethat is reportedly in development, but no official details for that have been shared and its mere existence is a source of debate, as many would argue that it doesn’t need to be remade.
