As part of a Season 1 LTM,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is adding the fan-favorite Ray Gun into multiplayer. Previously, the Ray Gun was only seen as a Wonder Weapon inside Zombies modes from previous games, but the developers are making additional use of the one-shot pistol as part of theCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3Season 1 update.
TheRay Gun has quite a history inCall of DutyZombiesmodes. Essentially, the Ray Gun is a one-shot weapon that has seen several different iterations over the years. The pistol has historically appeared exclusively in Zombies modes, but that is about to change thanks to a new LTM.
As part of a lengthyblog postdetailingModern Warfare 3andWarzone’s Season 1 update, theCall of Dutystaff shared information concerning Vortex, a new mid-season LTM featuring the Ray Gun. Vortex is a free-for-all mode in which only one player spawns with the Ray Gun. It is the goal of the other players to eliminate the Ray Gun’s Operator; whoever does becomes the new wielder. The chaotic-sounding new mode takes place on three different remixed multiplayer maps, including Satan’s Quarry, Sporeyard, and Tetanus.
The Ray Gun is widely considered to be one of thebestCall of DutyZombies Wonder Weapons, but again, Vortex will mark the first time the powerful pistol is seen outside the long-running mode. Its powers and abilities have changed somewhat from map to map over the years, but it has essentially remained a one-hit weapon, as it will in Vortex. WhileModern Warfare 3’s Season 1 begins December 6, Vortex is an in-season LTM, currently without a specified release date.
The Ray Gun is one of nineMystery Box weapons withinModern Warfare 3Zombies, so players should already have a feel for how the pistol operates within the latestCoDinstallment. It will also presumably look to be part of the Zombies post-game content coming as part of the Season 1 update.
Despite an up-and-down launch, CoD fans appear to be happy with the game’s multiplayer modes. Even with some contentiousness,one stat provesModern Warfare 3has been successful– the game’s record player hours. Not to mention, early sales have been solid despite negative reviews. While the campaign has been a disappointment according to most critics and fans, players largely agree the multiplayer modes are delivering. With Season 1 just around the corner, developer Sledgehammer Games and publisher Activision look to add even more value.
