Fighting games can create an entirely unique cast of characters and concepts that appeal to a variety of niche interests. While there are the iconic fighting game franchises likeStreet Fighter,Mortal Kombat,Tekken, andFatal Fury, there’s also a number of fighting games that have a unique premise or set of characters. One of these isThem’s Fightin' Herds, a game that once started out as aMy Little Pony-inspired fan game by a team known as Mane6. This eventually saw the game transforming into its own property with a set of quadrupedal fighters inspired by the original characters.

WhileThems' Fightin Herdsannounced it will be coming to consolesthis Fall, it has been playable on Steam for the last two years. It earned quite a bit of acclaim from fans and critics, where its story mode combines fighting game and adventure RPG elements, and the first chapter focused on the cowgirl Arizona. The development team Mane6 has confirmed that the first DLC character for the game’s first season pass will be her father, Texas.

This reveal was at Summer Jam 2022, a Fighting Game Tournament in New Jersey that features a number of popular titles likeTekken 7,Guilty Gear Strive, andUltimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. This trailer shows that Texas is a giant bull, and he is the first male fighter of thecast ofThem’s Fightin' Herds. It’s no surprise that his stature makes him tower over all the other playable fighters in the game, and he has a heavy hitting moveset to boot.

Based on the brief footage ofgameplay inThem’s Fightin' Herds, Texas' attacks are quite beefy, and he can also perform a parry or counter some of his opponent’s attacks. He demonstrates a powerful cow kick that can send his opponents across the arena, and much like his daughter Arizona, Texas can utilize ropes to snag his opponents from far away, where he can then drag them toward him. Getting in close seems to be Texas' priority in a match, which is demonstrated through a command grab that can throw his opponents into the ground.

The YouTube version of the trailer confirms that Patrick Seitz will be voicing Texas in this game. His most famous roles includeRagna the Bloodedgefrom theBlazBluefighting game series,Scorpion from recentMortal Kombatgames, and Dio fromJojo’s Bizarre Adventure, just to name a few. The trailer doesn’t give fans a release date other than 2022, with another DLC character slated to be released this year and two more coming in 2023.

Them’s Fightin' Herdsis available now for PC with PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S set to release in Fall 2022.
