The first two live-action interpretations of theFantastic Fourdid not go well. They were not well received by fans or critics when they were released. But It appears that Marvel Studios is on the right track knowing that they will involve those who were behind the production of their latest series,Moon Knight.
Jeremy Slater, a writer forMoon Knight, has confirmed thatMarvel Studios will involveMoon KnightproducersGrant Curtis and Nick Pepin to produce their upcoming live-action interpretation of TheFantastic Four. Slater, who was somewhat involved in the previous interpretation of the comic book franchise, said that it’s probably better that he’s not involved with the MCU project because Marvel fans do not trust him.

“My execs onMoon Knightare the same guys who are runningFantastic Four, so we had a lot of talks about it,” Slater told ComicBook. “I was like, ‘I’m not going to pitch you for anything, because honestly, you don’t need my stink on it.'” Slater later added that he trusts them to create an entertaining interpretation of The Fantastic Four and that the further he is from the project the better in the eyes of the fans. “Grant and Nick are amazing executives. They’re going to find brilliant writers and brilliant directors. And they don’t need my stink anywhere near that project. I can’t wait to see it as a fan, but I just know that no one will ever accept a Jeremy SlaterFantastic Fourmovie for very good reason. If your Uber driver shows up and you’re like, ‘Oh, I saw that guy drunk driving last week,’ you don’t get in the car with him. I think there’s some things that I just probably need to steer clear from for the rest of my career.”
It is a shame when those involved with bad projects are somehow labeled as the reason why the project itself was bad when what went on behind the scenes would strongly indicate that it was the studio that was behind why a film turned out horribly, not the writer or director.Batman fans notoriously blame Joel Schumacher, an excellent filmmaker, for how badBatman and Robinturned out back in 1997 like Marvel fans do with Slater. However, the real reason why that film turned out as poorly as it did was that Warner Bros. forced Schumacher to make the movie they wanted him to make. He merely was the fall guy.
This is the first major detail of what’s going to be many details to come out when Marvel Studios startsits own iteration of The Fantastic Four. They’re off to a good start knowing what Curtis and Pepin have done with other Marvel Studios properties they have worked on. If they even make a run-of-the-mill movie out of The Fantastic Four, that’s a major step-up compared to what’s been previously done before. All they need are competent minds to make a project like this work.
What will make it harder however is figuring out how they’ll incorporate those four into the MCU as a whole.Marvel Studios seamlessly integrated Spider-Maninto the universe because they had far fewer characters then than they do now. There has to be a purpose for why they’re there besides that they’re in the comics. Luckily, because Marvel Studios has all these other properties to worry about, they have time to work out the kinks.
