Marvel Studios' latest seriesMoon Knightcame to an end and the finale had a lot to offer. Some big questions were answered, new characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe were revealed, and the villain was defeated. One of the talking points of the episode was the revelation of Jake Lockley, an entirely new alter ego of Oscar Isaac’s protagonist. However, as many fans guessed, he was a part of the series all along.

In theMarvelComics,Marc Spector suffers from dissociative identity disorder(DID) and his alter egos include Steven Grant and Lockley. In Disney Plus’Moon Knight, the studio initially portrayed the story from Grant’s perspective and later took him on a journey as he was interchanging roles with Spector. But, fans were convinced that Lockley would make an appearance from the get go, and constantly looked for clues in every episode. Executive producer Grant Curtis has now confirmed that they were right all along.

There were many instances of Grant and Spector communicating with each other, and even sharing a body. But, some scenes inMoon Knighthinted towards a third personalitywhen neither of the main alter egos could remember certain events. Curtis confirmed toComicBookthat Lockley was present in the plot from episode one. “Jake appearing in episode six at the very end was not the first time Jake appeared in our narrative… He was in the show from episode one,” he revealed in an interview.

Fans of the comics were already aware of Lockley, and any time in the Disney Plus series when neither Spector nor Grant took ownership of their actions, it was a clear hint towards the third personality. The biggest example of this came inMoon Knightepisode 3when Spector is seen fighting some thugs on the streets of Cairo. He loses control for a moment, and returns to find all his opponents defeated brutally. He asks Grant if he was responsible, but the mild-mannered gift shop employee veins innocence. It seems apparent at this point that a third alter ego has been taking control of the body, and is seemingly more powerful than Spector, too.

Since thefirst episode ofMoon Knightpremiered, fans had been pointing out incidents that Lockley could have been responsible for. For instance, in the first episode, Isaac’s titular character asks a co-worker out on a date, and fans of the comics are convinced that it seemed like something Lockley would do. Additionally, many believe that it was Lockley driving the cupcake truck in the chase sequence in the second episode. Curtis, who had been following all the fan theories, believes that Marvel has the “best fans in the world.”
