The key figure of Capcom’sMonster Hunterseries is usually the large monsters that players spend most of their time hunting down and fighting, but it’s only a small part of what makes a title likeMonster Hunter Risefeel like a living, breathing world. In many cases, it’s the smaller monsters and endemic life that makeMonster Hunterlocations feel lived in, by both the human characters and the endemic life that fills hunting grounds.

So, it’s little surprise to see Capcom continue doling out new information on theMonster Hunter Rise: Sunbreakexpansion by showing off two new small monsters. These new creatures also appear to have some ways of interacting with players, with one of them being a new enemy type that could hinder hunts, even if only in small ways.

The two new monsters are called the Gowngoat and Boggi, which Capcom announced through a new video that shows the creatures grazing across the game world. In the case of the Gowngoat, this appears to be a more peaceful creature that will likely act more as a source for materials like fur and raw meat, as well as bait for larger monsters. However, the Boggi appears to be a smaller bird wyvern similar to the Baggi that already exists as both a small andlarge monster inMonster Hunter Riseas an enemy that can be hunted.

As for the Boggi, it isn’t clear if their inclusion will also mean the introduction of a Great Boggi amongMonster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak’s new monsters, though it would be welcome among players. Considering how leader monsters like the Great Izuchi act as great lead-in monsters to teach players how to fight multiple enemies at once, a Great Boggi could work well for guiding players throughSunbreak’s updating difficulty. Of course, the inclusion of the smaller Boggi doesn’t guarantee a new large monster, and their appearance in the game world will still go a long way on its own to make the world feel lived in.

Between the visual designs andcultural parallels ofMonster Hunter Rise’s creatures, these two new small monsters have so far been a delight for fans of the series. The Gowngoat specifically has already been quickly embraced by the playerbase seeing the large, furry animals as a new adorable addition to the world that makes general exploration better for their presence. This extra mile that brings even small new additions to theSunbreakexpansion is just another reason for fans to be excited for what Capcom has planned in the future.

Monster Hunter Riseis available now for PC and Switch. TheSunbreakexpansion is set to launch on June 2022.
