Summary

Across its lifetime,Minecrafthas hosted a lot of crossovers with other properties. DespiteFortnite Battle Royalebeing better known for its constant stream of crossover characters and story arcs, its fellow mainstream gaming success,Minecraft, has been steadily working in IPs as well. From multipleGodzillafilms to the Burberry fashion brand and everything in between, the skins, textures, and new maps from plenty of major sources have appeared inMinecraft. Some more recent Mash-Up Packs likeSonic the Hedgehoghave even changedMinecraft’s core mechanics, demonstrating how significant crossing over with this once-experimental indie game can be.

There are plenty of IPs left forMinecraftto feature, like a possibly-teasedDunepack, but that shouldn’t rule out opportunities to revisit old partnerships. Plenty of classicMinecraftMash-Ups and Skin Packs are still ripe for new crossovers, and few have as much untapped potential asFinal Fantasy. The 2018Final Fantasy 15Skin Pack forMinecraftwas a surprise at the time, even accounting for how much multimedia marketingFF15received. However, otherFinal Fantasygames still have plenty to offerMinecraft, and the perfect entry to draw on is already in the middle of its return tour.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Is Ripe For A Minecraft Crossover

IfMinecraftcould only devote one more full Mash-Up Pack to aFinal Fantasygame,Final Fantasy 7would be the obvious choice. The game remains an RPG icon to this day, and that status has been reinforced by more and more releases joining theCompilation of Final Fantasy 7. Most recently,Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthlaunched as the second title in theFF7 Remaketrilogy, and it could work as aMinecraftcrossover all by itself. ThefullFinal Fantasy 7party is present inRebirthand, with some other villains, monsters, and side characters along for the ride, it could produce an enormously popularMinecraftSkin Pack.

A Minecraft and Final Fantasy 7 Crossover Could Take Many Forms

The same could be said for aFinal Fantasy 7texture pack and corresponding set of maps.Minecraftcould end up with every screen in PS1Final Fantasy 7remade into a series of maps, or it could recreate the pseudo-open worldregions ofFF7featured inFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth.FF7’s detailed geography is well-suited toMinecraft, so the more locations a crossover map can fit in, the better. IfPowerWash Simulator’sFF7 RemakeDLC can impress by recreating a small portion of Midgar, thenMinecraftDLC should be able to do so much more withRebirth’s wider world.

Minecraft Could Host Its Own Final Fantasy 7 Remake

All of that is just the basics of what a Minecraft crossover withFinal Fantasy 7could do. RecentMinecraftmashup packs likeSonic the HedgehogandDungeons and Dragonshave gone as far as building small games from their respective franchises inMinecraft, with unique mechanics and even voice acting, which could be repeated withFinal Fantasy. Not only would existing assets like horses directly translate into Chocobos, but entire mechanics like summoning iconicFinal Fantasybeasts and potentially some form of usable Materia could be introduced intoMinecraft.

FF7’s RPG Side Could Really Shine In Minecraft

Building on that, aFinal Fantasy 7 RebirthMash-Up Pack could include voice acting, side quests, a main story, and even a new battle system.

ImportingFF7 Rebirth’s action combatintoMinecraftmight hamper the experience, but menu-based fighting, complete with magic and Limit Breaks, should fitMinecraftnicely. That’s not even getting into howFF7’s vehicles and minigames could be translated intoMinecraft. AFinal Fantasy 7 RebirthDLC pack forMinecraftcould make up forFF15’s relatively simple Skin Pack with interest and, luckily for fans of each, there’s still plenty of time for this dream crossover to come true.
