The upcomingMinecraft Legendsis the next step in a massively successful franchise, hoping to bring the familiar world of the IP to the genre of real time strategy. Simultaneously set to showcase a variety of familiar mobs – possibly including the Wither – while debuting several new ones,Minecraft Legendsalso offers a unique level of narrative focus on a war between the Nether and the Overworld that could leave an impact on the franchise.

One of the many questions that fans are already posing regardingMinecraft Legendsconcerns the potential bosses that will be present within the title. While it will be pertinent for the game to introduce some lower level bosses that are entirely unique toLegends, a perfect final boss for the game could easily be borrowed from the Nether.

The Narrative of Minecraft Legends

Minecraft Legendswill see the Overworld ofMinecraftbe invaded bythe Piglins of the Nether realm. It’s up to the player character to unite the passive and hostile mobs of the Overworld to fight against this potentially catastrophic shared threat.Minecraft Legendsisn’t the first spinoff of the franchise with a narrative, but it wields the IP’s lore uniquely, turning enemies into allies.

While also boasting base building and resource gathering mechanics, the player will have control over a variety of familiar mobs in combat, pushing back the Piglin threat and eventually fighting them in their home world of the Nether. With this end-game narrative direction in mind, it wouldn’t be at all surprising for theinfamousMinecraftWither bossto be the final antagonist ofMinecraft Legends.

Minecraft Wither (1)

The Wither in Minecraft Legends

The Wither was added to the game in 2012 with the game’s Pretty Scary Update. As the second boss to be added toMinecraft, the Wither is one of the most recognizable and feared mobs in the entire game, synonymous with the harder gameplay interactions that the sandbox title can offer. Reflective of the difficulty around actually fighting the mob, theWither has to be manually spawned intoMinecraftafter a player acquires three Wither Skeleton skulls from certain structures within the Nether. Once spawned, the Wither can wreak huge amounts of destruction and damage, but it will drop a valuable Nether Star upon death, which can be used to craft stat-boosting beacons.

Since theNether is the main antagonistic force ofMinecraft Legends, it makes sense that the Wither could serve as the perfect end-game boss for the title. The fact that the Wither can be spawned in the main Overworld could translate over toLegends; the Piglin army attempts to build and summon the Wither.Minecraft Legendshas also been praised for how it is expanding upon the lore ofMinecraft, and there is no reason why the amount of context it’s providing could not be extended to the Wither, whether the Piglins worship it or secretly serve it.

While the Wither has been inMinecraftfor over a decade, there is still little to no tangible lore behind the mob and its role within the Nether; this is an aspect of the franchise that could easily be remedied by making the WitherMinecraft Legend’sfinal boss. Of course, an entirely unique final encounter would also be welcome to make the game stand further apart, but the setting andMojang’sMinecraft Legendsstoryseem to lend themselves perfectly to having the Wither as its ultimate villain.
