The newestMinecraftsnapshot is fixing an 11-year-old bug that somehow survived so far. ThisMinecraftupdate is also responsible for tweaking the game a bit and introducing a few improvements in some mechanics.

Bugs have been a constant part of theMinecraftexperience since it was released back in 2011. Whether it’s the case ofpets ofMinecraftplayers vanishing, weird graphical glitches, or something else entirely, such a huge game about building and changing the world in a sandbox would obviously be full of eventual bugs. However, most of the major issues in the game are patched out really fast. This was not the case for one bug, though.

TheMinecraftsnapshot 23w18a is already out, and it fixed MC-1133, a bug that existed in the game for the last 11 years. In this Reddit post, the game’s developer Mojang announced that the new patch would get rid of this bug, which was originally reported on July 30, 2025. MC-1133 is a weird yet harmless bug related to the noise made by steps. In short, when the character is walking to the very edge of a block, but still standing on it,Minecraftwill glitchand believe the player is in the air, so it won’t make footstep noises. It’s very hard to perceive when not paying attention, but it’s still remarkable that it managed to last for so long despite being known.

Other changes for snapshot 23w18a include fixing 11 other known bugs, allowing players to no longer need a smithing template to use a smithing table, adding a jukebox to the creative tab, and more. Players can already install the Snapshot if they arecurrently usingMinecraft Java Edition. To do it, they should open their game launcher and enable snapshots via the “Installations” tab. However, they should be warned, according to Mojang’s post, that these are test versions, and they could cause save corruption, so backing up the world before installing is a good idea.

Minecraftis constantly changing, and a recent mod adds very interesting features to the experience. Last week, a newMinecraftmod allowed players to build using ChatGPT. By using it, gamers will be able to automate some of the construction process, using relevant images to create 3D models inside the game. Unfortunately, however, the current results are far from impressive, which may lead most players to simply keep playing the game as it is for the moment.

Minecraftis available on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and legacy platforms.
