Marvel Snap’s March 2023 season is shaping up to be a huge boon for the destruction deck archetype with a host of new cards set to be added that could elevate this deck type to the top of the meta. This season, titled Days of Future Past, features an emphasis on Marvel’s X-Men, adding several new cards related to the mutants like Kitty Pryde, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Master Mold, and the Season Pass card, Nimrod. Historically, the Season Pass cards forMarvel Snaphave been quite powerful, but this time a few cards have the potential to reshape the meta.

The destruction deck archetype has already seen a good deal of love from developer Second Dinner recently with changes to one of its staple cards, Wolverine, making it more useful than ever before. Although the archetype has fallen out of popularity in the current meta with the rise ofSandman decks inMarvel Snapfollowing his recent buff, the addition of these new cards in the latest season could provide a great counter to this card. For fans of destruction decks, Days of Future Past could be the chance for them to shine again.

The typicaldestruction deck inMarvel Snapfocuses on taking advantage of cards that benefit from being destroyed. Cards like Wolverine, who returns to the field at a random location with +2 Power when destroyed, or Sabretooth, who returns to the player’s hand with 0-Cost when destroyed, are cornerstones for this type of deck. Additionally, cards that facilitate their destruction like Carnage, who destroys all friendly cards at a location and gains +2 Power for each, or Venom, who also destroys all friendly cards at a location and gains the total of their combined power, are other necessities in a deck like this.

With this new season come two new cards that are perfect additions to this deck archetype and could be the catalysts for this deck’s rise to the top of the meta. The first is the Season Pass card, Nimrod, which seems to follow the trend ofMarvel Snap’s Season Pass cardsbeing some of the strongest in the game on their release. Nimrod’s ability adds copies of itself to each other location when destroyed, and while it’s unclear if these copies have the same ability allowing them to be destroyed and duplicated again, this card still offers great utility regardless.

Negasonic Teenage Warhead has the potential to be a versatile card not only as a destruction deck staple, but as an answer to one of the top deck types in the currentMarvel Snapmeta. This card is another great option alongsideMarvel Snap’s Venomand Carnage for destroying cards, as her ability destroys the next card played there along with herself. This can be useful for guaranteeing a card whose ability activates on destruction is indeed activated, but it can also be used to strategically take out opposing cards that could be dangerous. Predicting if an opponent is going to play Sandman on turn 4 or 5 and playing Negasonic Teenage Warhead at the same location could provide a great counter to the card.

While these cards may not have the meta-defining potential of cards likeZabu or Silver Surfer inMarvel Snap, they will likely be some of the most used in the Days of Future Past season. Negasonic Teenage Warhead has a particular utility that gives her viability in a variety of deck types, and Nimrod may have a more powerful ability than initially intended depending on how its copies are treated. As such, it’s likely the meta forMarvel Snapwill have to shift to account for these cards in the coming season.
