Modders have taken the opportunity presented byMarvel’s Spider-Manlaunching on PC to mod in one of their favorite characters, Spider-Gwen, in place of Peter Parker’s Spider-Man. Where making mods toMarvel’s Spider-Manon PS4 or PS5 would have proved difficult and inaccessible before, the PC port’s release has opened up a new world of possibilities. And given Spider-Gwen’s increasing popularity since the release ofInto the Spider-Verse, it’s no surprise she’s been chosen for a mod.
TheMarvel’s Spider-Man Remasteredmodding scene has positively exploded in popularity since the game’s release on August 12. Hundreds of new mods have been added in the last week alone, and seem to be increasing in number day to day. A majority of the early mods are simple model replacements, giving Spider-Man new outfits, but there are several other interesting mods being added. One example is the animations fromMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Moralesreplacing the base animations for Peter Parker.

Spider-Gwen is a very recent addition to the library of new mods forMarvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. Made by DrYongers, the mod was uploaded to NexusMods on Saturday and has already been downloaded nearly 1,000 times. The mod replaces Spider-Man’s model with one based on Spider-Gwen, with the creator using theInto the Spider-Versecharacter design as a source of inspiration. To use it, players will also have to download the Modified SMPC Tool, which enables simple character modding inMarvel’s Spider-Man.
Those questioning whether replacingPeter Parker’s Spider-Manwith Spider-Gwen makes a lot of sense have a good point. The mod doesn’t change any of the character’s animations, it doesn’t change Peter Parker’s voice, and it doesn’t change Peter Parker’s name in the story. It’s just a simple way of being able to swing aroundMarvel’s Spider-Man’s open world as Spider-Gwen.
There are other mods that can help flesh out theSpider-Gwenexperience inMarvel’s Spider-Man, though. There are mods to turn off Spider-Man’s dialogue, and as noted mods that replace the animations in the game. It’s theoretically possible for a more robust mod to edit the game’s story, models, and animations so that the game seems based around Spider-Gwen entirely.
While this Spider-Gwen mod is rough around the edges, it’s yet more evidence of the growing popularity of the character beyond the comic book fandom. Spider-Gwen’s return is highly anticipated inSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the sequel toInto the Spider-Verse. Leaks have also confirmed a Spider-Gwen skin is coming toFortniteas part of next season’s battle pass. Now if Marvel could just greenlight a new Spider-Gwen comic after canceling her last one, Spider-Gwen fans would be well set.
