There will likely be people reading this who have tried to get hold of a newNvidiaor AMD graphics card to no avail. About a week ago,AMD’s RX 6500 XT was sold out almost immediately after launching, and prices on eBay had skyrocketed. Some likely wondered whether team green’s latest budget card would also suffer the same fate, and it looks as though stores are already out of stock of the company’s new product.
According to a recent report from Tom’s Hardware, theNvidiaRTX 3050, which was released just a day ago, is nowhere to be seen in terms of availability. Some of the big suppliers, such as Newegg, Micro Center, and Best Buy, are already sold out of the newly-released GPU. At the time of writing, it looks as though customers are not going to be able to get hold of the product just yet. It’s unsure why it’s sold out so quickly, but it’s likely to be a combination of demand not meeting supply, and the fact that getting a new graphics card is hard enough as it is, so many will likely have purchased one the second it went on sale.

Last year, it was suggested thatsupplies of Nvidia GPUs could drop by a thirdfor the month of September, and this latest development shows that things don’t seem to have improved much. This is all despite the fact that team green seemed fairly confident that it could improve supplies of the RTX 3050 upon release. Whether this is something that will be acted upon in the future remains to be seen, but for the time being, the market, and subsequently the customers, are still suffering.
The fact that theRTX 3050 is apparently bad for cryptominingcould also explain it being sold out so quickly. Given that mining is being held at least partly responsible for the deficit, GPUs that are being released with limited hash rates are bound to pull in more attention from gamers, as miners stand to not benefit from such products.
WhileIntel says that the chip shortage could go on until 2023,Nvidiaseems more optimistic, suggesting that things could start to look up from Q2 onwards this year. Whatever the case may be, the fact is that as soon as a new graphics card gets released, it’s almost immediately gone again, leaving many potential buyers empty-handed and no way to know how soon supplies will return. There is eBay, of course, but that seems to be an avenue for the desperate who don’t mind paying $2,000 for a card that’s worth $250.
