In the world ofJujutsu Kaisen, a cursed corpse is one of the most common appearances, and they appear in various shapes or forms. Cursed corpses are nonliving objects which are equipped with cursed energy to come to life. Cursed corpses are also usually hostile towards humans and can also be described as inanimate objects possessed by cursed energy and are also, most of the time, puppets.
Masamicihi Yaga, a veteran grade 1 sorcerer and top practitioner of puppet jujutsu, knew how to create cursed corpses that could follow a set of instructions and also stated that a person’s soul information can also be duplicated and imbued into a cursed corpse.
Sentient Cursed Corpses and Puppet Manipulation
Yaga’s Prized Creation and Kokichi’s Mechamaru
Panda was one of the iconic characters introduced in Jujutsu Kaisen, however Panda is not an actual panda and is one of Masamicihi Yaga’s unique creations. In technicality,Panda was a product of a process knownas the creation of an abrupt-mutation cursed corpse. The uniqueness of Panda as a cursed corpse is that, unlike general cursed corpses that stop functioning when it runs of cursed energy, Panda is able to produce his own cursed energy and is also completely sentient. Even though Panda is technically a cursed corpse, he still attends Jujutsu High and is a semi-grade 2 sorcerer. He also possesses high amounts of cursed energy, his own personality and fighting style.
Another example of using cursed corpses is Kokichi Muta’s puppet manipulation cursed technique, Kokichi created a cursed corpse known as Mechamaru and was able to control his cursed corpse remotely, as his body was too fragile to walk around. He used Mechamaru as a way to communicate with his classmates and to also attend Jujutsu High as a student. Kokichi’s puppet manipulation cursed technique isso powerful that he is able to control as many cursed corpsesas he wanted remotely. He was also able to create a massive sized mecha version of his cursed corpse known as Ultimate Mechamaru - Mode: Absolute.
The Drawbacks of Cursed Corpses
Masamicihi Yaga Paid the Price For Creating Cursed Corpses
Even though Masamicihi Yaga was the first practitioner in creating cursed corpses, he was under severe jurisdiction from the jujutsu elders, who feared that Masamicihi could create an army of his own and cause chaos. He was initially detained but was let go thanks to the influence of Satoru Gojo. After the Shibuya incident, however, they demanded that he share his secrets inpuppet manipulation and threatened to execute himif he refused. Panda was not the only cursed corpse Masamicihi created, he created many dolls who were practically harmless and that lived in a forest. He also used the dolls for training and surveillance purposes.
Masamicihi could not hold onto his secret for longas Prinicpal Gakuganji approached him and engaged in a battle where Masamicihi loses and is left on the verge of death. Masamicihi then reveals to Gakuganji, how a self-sustaining cursed corpse is created. When questioned by Gakuganji as to why he did not reveal this information before, Masamicihi states that it is a curse that he wishes to leave with Gakuganji, leaving the principal in shock and disbelief. It is important to note that not all cursed corpses are out to harm humans. There is a huge difference between the cursed corpses thatNobara encounters in the early episodes of the seriesthat attack her and Yuji and there are also the innocent cursed corpses that pose no harm and are on the human’s side, like Panda and the rest of the dolls Masamicihi created.
