If James Gunn’s recent teasing on social media can be believed, there’s a possibility that anotherTheSuicide Squadspinoff show might be coming down the line. Could another character be joiningPeacemakerin getting their own show on HBO Max? The writer/director isn’t saying yes or no but instead said “maybe.”
While doing the press and social media rounds in order to promotethe upcomingTheSuicide Squadmovie, Gunn might have let the cat out of the bag about another spinoff. Peacemaker is indeed coming to HBO Max and Gunn recently said that the show just wrapped shooting its first season. Now that his work on that show is over, it’s possible he’s hinting that production on another spinoff from the movie could be in the works.

While Gunn was apparently headed home afterThe Suicide Squad’s premiere, he decided to answer some questions from his fans on Instagram. One of those questions was whether or not any other spinoffs were in the works. While he didn’t specifically say yes or no, he did answer, “maybe.” In the same string of responses to his fans, Gunn said that he actually preferred writing television over movies. He added the reason for that is becausetelevision shows likePeacemakerallow for the writer to get deeper into a character. Meanwhile, something likeThe Suicide Squadmovie has to focus on the development of several different characters.
Gunn also said that the HBO Max spinoff allowed him to jump into the current world issues and take them on through the lens of an anti-hero. He added that he’s excited to expandthe story ofThe Suicide SquadthroughPeacemaker. He also said he’s had a good time working with John Cena as the main actor for longer. The question now is whether or not Gunn was foreshadowing another project or was simply stating that he would like to do another spinoff at some point. He certainly didn’t have anything to announce while he was answering questions.
Earlier in the week, the write and director talked about how much he likedone of the characters inThe Suicide Squadespecially. He said he felt as though Polka-Dot Man was someone who fans and moviegoers could identify with because he’s kind of a tragic figure.
However, there’s no indication of any more story or plot in the works for that character. For now, fans of Gunn’s will have to be content with the big-screen story onThe Suicide Squadreleasing soon.
The Suicide Squadis now playing in theaters and on HBO Max.
