When fans are given tools to create whatever they like, amazing things can come out of it. Many have paid tribute to the game franchises they love, but for a weekly 3D modeling challenge on Reddit, one fan modeled hisNintendo Switchwith fine details, and it looks almost photorealistic.

The artist behind the Switch model, arnaudcroonen, is a 3D modeling hobbyist hoping to get a job in the field. He only has two years of experience with Blender so far, and on Reddit he participates in several 3D modeling communities with an interested in re-creating many objects from Nintendo games. For example, objects such as the Master Sword fromThe Legend of ZeldaandPoke Balls fromPokemon Legends: Arceusare included in their previous works.

The shots used for the Nintendo Switch seems fairly simple; the console is on its unlock screen as it rests on a wooden desk, as if it was just woken up out of sleep mode. The Switch hasBreath of the Wildwaiting for its owner to resume playing. As people take a second look, what they may have thought was a photo of a Switch resting on someone’s desk is actually a fully rendered 3D model, and commenters on Reddit have expressed surprise.

The comments are filled with fellow fans asking arnaudcroonen if he’s a professional modeler, and talking about how they nearly scrolled past thinking it was a photo in the wrong subreddit. The additional photos in the post showcase that the Switch is fully modeled, including the back bumpers, and arnaudcroonen said even some of thelogos and images for the Nintendo Switchwere remade for the model.

One eagle-eyed fan mentioned that the colors for theNintendo Switch’s neon Joy-Cons were backward, which proves it to be a fan-made model rather than the real thing. Even with this detail, the model still looks excellent with other points of interest such as its battery percentage, dust particles, and even fingerprints on the device.

If people like arnaudcroonen end up in the 3D modeling industry, the lines between what’s CGI and what isn’t may end up blurred sooner rather than later. While arnaudcroonen currently spends his timemaking models like this of Nintendo gamesfor weekly challenges, and probably playing theNintendo Switchhe replicated, what he ends up making in the future is something other fans should probably keep an eye on.
