A day won’t last forever inStardew Valley, and with less than a full 24 hours, you’ll want to make the most of your time. You’re given about 20 hours in-game, and rather than counting from 1 to 60, minutes pass by in 10s. Depending on your year, you’ll want to get up and moving as soon as possible. Time is also important if you need to stock up on seeds, purchase animals/animal supplies, or farm renovations. Knowing when a store opens and closes inStardew Valleywill be key to completing tasks.
How Many Hours in Stardew Valley
Day Cycle Explained
Your character will wake up at6amand fall asleep at2am. 10 minutes in-game is equivalent to8 seconds in real time. Despite the day starting at 6am on the dot, you’re more than likely to finish all your morning tasks an hour or so later, depending on what you have on your farm.
By12am, you’ll see a notification stating “It’s getting late…”; you receive another notification at1am. These will push you to return home before you automatically pass out at 2am - regardless of your location. If your character passes out, they will wake up in their bed the next day. Passing out outside the farmhouse will cost you 1000g.
The only way you can avoid losing the 1000g is if youpass out in the mines (does not include the Volcano on Ginger Island). You’ll be rescued by Marlon, but you won’t be charged the 1000g. Ultimately, if you’re in the mines and it’s past 1am, it’s better to let your character pass out rather than rushing back to the farm.
Passing out in the mines is different than being KO’d in the mines. If you’re KO’d in the mines, you’ll lose some of your items rather than gold. If you’re KO’d in Skull Cavern or the Volcano, you’ll lose your itemsandbe charged 1000g by Harvey.

Can You Slow Down Time?
What Areas Slow Time?
It’s impossible to slow down time inStardew Valley. However, time moves slowerin Skull Cavern. For example, 10 in-game minutes equals 9/10 seconds in real time; an hour is now almost a full minute (exact time: 54 seconds). This rule doesnotapply to the mines in Pelican Town or Ginger Island’s Volcano Dungeon.
