Horizon Zero Dawnwas praised by reviewers for being a bold new game for Guerrilla, and it’s sequel has been praised for taking what fans loved about the first game and building on it. It’s a simple tactic, and yet thefirst major Sony exclusive of 2022has benefited from not trying to reinvent the wheel and instead just making what was good even better.
Continuingprotagonist Aloy’s adventureas she journeys through a post apocalyptic world of hostile machines and people,Horizon Forbidden Westhas a new story, new gameplay options and a whole new map for players to explore. As with many open-world titles, the map is where players are given the best chance to run off on their own and find hidden loot, quests, and objectives that stray from the main path. However, oneHorizon Zero Dawnplayer has stumbled upon something that the developers may not have intended for them to find, proving the original still has some secrets.

Posting their finding to Reddit, user u/Horyur shows a clip of Aloy near a large rock formation close to one ofHorizon Zero Dawn’ssettlements. Unfortunately u/Horyur does not show their audience an exact location of where they are. What they do show though, is quite interesting as by climbing up the rock formation and looking down, the player spots a strange cave in between two rocks. The player then enters the cave to find a small crawlspace that is well hidden from any other part of the map.
There are no objectives or loot to be found in this cave, which has led many in the comments of the initial Reddit post to label the cave as some sort of glitch or bug present inHorizon Zero Dawn’sgeography. While the game does have interesting attention to detail, the addition of a meaningless cave may seem a bit much for some players. Considering the cave’s placement as well, it may be lucky that the player in question didn’t fall through what is likely an unintentional area.
Other comments though pointed out how the cave could have acted as a possible player home or base for Aloy. Many likened the cave to the player homes that can be found in games likeConan Exiles, Animal Crossing, andArk: Survival Evolved. While it would be interesting to see a hidden base mechanic in aHorizongame, it doesn’t seem like this was the intention of this space. Others thought that perhaps it would lead to random encounters that can’t be found through the map, similar tothose seen inRed Dead Redemption 2.
Horizon Forbidden Westis available now on PS4 and PS5.
