5Monster Tale

Monster Taleis a Metroidvania that was first released on theDSin 2011. In 2015 a 3DS remake was announced,Monster Tale Ultimater, but that was canceled. Then, in 2021, a remaster was announced but no gameplay was shown.

It was supposed to hit in the same year but it didn’t. It’s a real shame because it is one of the DS’more underrated Metroidvaniasand games overall. The kid-like design to everything may have thrown some people off along with the late release date. By that point, the DS was in its twilight years.

1Curse Of The Sea Rats

Curse of the Sea Ratsalso set up a Kickstarter in 2019. It was supposed to launch last year in 2021 but it looks like the developers missed their boat. This is a self-described “ratoidvania” which is a fun pun in that all four heroes are rats.

They started as human sailors but were changed in a brutal storm. What makes this Metroidvania unique is that it is a four-player co-op game. Not many Metroidvanias offerco-op of any kindso this is a huge deal. The game will launch on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox One X.
