To the point where mods are still being actively developed forDark Souls 3.
It’s been six years sinceDark Souls 3first released and fans continue to make a plethora of content surrounding the game. In fact, one player recently managed tobeat the final boss ofDark Souls 3with over 90 percent of their screen covered. Over onReddit, a user named JBlack_5000 posted a gameplay clip ofDark Souls 3that shows off a mod that allows the player to equip a gigantic sword that protrudes vertically out of the top of the player’s helmet. According to the mod description, titled Blades of Ashina, this helm can actually damage enemy combatants and can be used by performing gestures in rapid succession.
Not only is this mod humorous to witness, but it also falls in line with the needs of some fans to makeDark Souls 3as difficult as possible. It’s almost a certainty now that someone is going to try and beatDark Souls 3using nothing, but this helm. Given that someonebeatDark Souls 3using a one button morse code controller, beating the game with a sword sticking out of the player’s head seems like an actual possibility.
It’s amazing how much longevityDark Souls 3has managed to maintain. Not justDark Souls 3, but numerous other FromSoftware titles have continued to receive new fan content in 2022. Take for instance, thePSX demake ofBloodbornethat launched back in February. Days later, the community managed to add widescreen and ray-tracing settings to theBloodborneremake, more than proving how much commitment fans have to these games.
In any case, it will be interesting to see what FromSoftware does going forward. Following the massive success ofElden Ring, many fans have begun to wonder what direction the studio will go in next. Given how recent the release ofElden Ringis, it seems unlikely that fans will be seeing a new FromSoftware title anytime soon.
Dark Souls 3is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
