With his work as the titular character wrapping up onThe Flash, Grant Gustin made it clear that he may not be done with the superhero genre. He admitted that because of his love for the genre, he would be down to play a superhero again. Better yet, that might include a potential return asThe Flash.
WithThe Flashending after a nine-year run, Gustin admitted that he is interested in playing another superhero should the opportunity present itself. He even would be down to return as Flash, though he didn’t elaborate on whether it would be for a reboot or another DC property.

Gustin explained toEntertainment Weeklywhy he is not calling it quits in the superhero genre. “I’m not going to say I’m hanging it up for good,” Gustin said. “I have no idea what the future holds. And not evenFlash-related — so many people would ask what I wanted to do when this chapter was over, and how I probably wouldn’t want to do superhero things again, but no, I grew up a fan of this genre. I love this genre, I love sci-fi stuff, I love superhero stuff, so I would be open to doing any superhero thing again,Flashor something else, as long as it was a character I was excited about. I would honestly love for someone to call me about someFlash-related thing at some point down the line.”
The Flashpaid some homages during its run on television, like having John Wesley Shipp, who played the titular character in the 1990 show starring The Flash, appear as an alternate version of the hero and Gustin’s father in his universe. The CW Arrowverse, in general, had some pretty clever homages, like havingthe legendary Kevin Conroyplay an old Batman in an alternate universe after he voiced Batman for over 20 years. Gustin played the character for nearly a decade and has earned a similar reputation for how well he played Barry Allen.
Fans may think Gustin won’t be able to pull off another hero because he’s too well-recognized as The Flash. However, they must remember that actors known best for playing superheroes had also played others beforehand. It may seem like a distant memory now,but before Captain America, Chris Evans played The Human Torch in the originalFantastic 4movies. Before he brought the iconic merc with a mouth as Deadpool to life, Ryan Reynolds played the lead inGreen Lantern. Who’s to say Gustin can’t do the same thing in the superhero genre, knowing how well he played Barry?
Of course, there’s a difference. ThoseFantastic 4movies with Evans were pretty widely panned, though that didn’t have much to do with his performance. The same thing goes for Reynolds. They did much better on the second try, while Gustin nailed it on the first. Knowing DC’s extended universe andthe upcomingThe Flashmovie, Gustin could appear in a multiverse story down the line, and knowing how much fanfare he acquired over the past nine years, his re-appearance would make the fans go wild.
The Flashwill air its series finale on Aug 04, 2025, on The CW.
