TheGrand Theft Automultiplayer community is the backbone of theGTAfranchise, first introduced officially inGrand Theft Auto 4and flourishing into its own separate gaming experience withGrand Theft Auto 5. While the current games enjoyed success with their extensive online multiplayer, several players have taken it upon themselves to enhance the experience outside of Rockstar’s capabilities.
One of the recent modern examples of players banding together is the construction of theMile High Club inGrand Theft Auto 5. Since the game’s launch in 2013, Rockstar had yet to update the construction of the large skyscraper to the point when several modders decided to finish the building construction itself. Another highly requested feature, the ability to explore maps from previous games, was an ambitious feature that modders were able to accomplish ahead of the developers.

Originally released in 2015, the GTA Underground Team has released Version 4.17 of their ambitiousGTA Undergroundmod last week, simplifying the process needed to set up theUndergroundmod with a dedicated installer. UsingGrand Theft Auto: San Andreasas its base,GTA Undergroundcombines the maps ofGrand Theft Auto 3,Vice City,San Andreas, Manhunt, and Bullytogether in one large map. Several players have shown off the new update, with YouTuber Carnate exploring Liberty City and Vice City while messing with the mod’s other capabilities.
The update also fixes several glitches within theGTA Undergroundmultiplayer mode, adjusting the collision detection with several maps, including Vice City. TheGTA Undergroundteam’s vision was to unify Rockstar’s “3D era” of games in one seamless package using theGrand Theft Auto: San Andreasengine, a feat that is impressive in its own right. For a game that is 17 years old,Grand Theft Auto: San Andreasremains one of Rockstar’s most popular titles with a thriving modding and multiplayer scene.
With rumors of a remasteredGrand Theft Auto: San Andreascircling from a 4Chan leak, the possibilities of exploring other cities within aGrand Theft Autogame are enticing. Visiting Liberty City in a potentialSan Andreasremaster wouldn’t be completely off the table, as one mission requires CJ to briefly fly to Liberty City to go to Saint Mark’s Bistro and deal with the mafia there. Although brief, fans have envisioned what it would be like to venture into a fully explored Liberty City.
In other titles, several classic games have historically received the similar treatment of bringing as many classic maps to a single game as possible. One of the prominent examples is theTHUG Promod forTony Hawk’s Underground 2, which aims to port as many levels in previousTony Hawk’s Pro Skatergames as possible. Coincidentally, theTHUG Promod has existed almost as long asGTA Underground, with the former’s community being a driving force in promotingTony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2.
Grand Theft Auto Underground’s latest update is available on PC.
