Anticipation for the next game in theGrand Theft Autofranchise is unspeakably high. Rockstar is clearly not in a rush, however, withGrand Theft Auto 5andGrand Theft Auto Online’s continued massive success. As such, it may be some time before any further details are shared aboutGrand Theft Auto 6from Rockstar itself. Fans will have to rely onGrand Theft Auto 6insiders for potential information, the latest of which has highly complimentary words for Rockstar’sGTA 6engine.Chris Klippel of Rockstar Mag, a French publication covering all thingsGrand Theft AutoandRed Dead Redemption, shared some interesting perspective on Twitter just recently. Klippel says that they received feedback regardingGrand Theft Auto 6’s engine, which they name RAGE9. This engine, they believe, is going to lead to something “incredible” forGrand Theft Auto 6. They say that RAGE9 is truly “an engine ahead of its time.“RELATED:Grand Theft Auto Leaker Says This is the First Image of GTA 6If it wasn’t clear, Klippel isn’t claiming to have seenGrand Theft Auto 6, or evenRockstar’s updated RAGE engine. They’re claiming to have heard details about the engine that Rockstar is using forGrand Theft Auto 6and how impressive it is. That leaves a lot of room for Klippel’s comments to be exaggerated or inaccurate, soGrand Theft Autofans should take them with a grain of salt.
RAGE, Rockstar Advanced Game Engine, is known to be Rockstar’s engine for its in-house projects, includingGrand Theft Auto 5andRed Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar iterates on the engine with every game release in small and large ways. Rockstar doesn’t refer to the RAGE engine with version numbers publicly. The versioning is mentioned somewhat often within the Rockstar community, however, whether it’s accurate or not.
Regardless of whether the version of RAGE being used forGrand Theft Auto 6is actually the ninth version of the engine or not, Klippel is saying that it’s a step forward from the version of RAGE used forRed Dead Redemption 2. That alone should convey the kind of visual step forward Klippel expects with the latest Rockstar engine update, considering how impressiveRed Dead Redemption 2’s visualsare.
Klippel’s reporting on the subject may or may not be accurate, but Rockstar fans already believe thatGrand Theft Auto 6will be an impressive visual step forward from previous Rockstar games. Rockstar always pushes for cutting-edge visuals in its games, after all. It’s just a matter of being patient and waiting untilRockstar finally unveilsGTA 6to the world.
Grand Theft Auto 6is in development.
