Yaoyao is one of the latest additions to theGenshin Impactroster, who has been introduced as the youngest and most talented disciple of the Streetward Rambler, better known as Madame Ping. Despite her young age, she has managed to gain the respect and admiration of most of the Adepti due to her kind, considerate, and mature nature while having the occasional mischievous streak. Even though Yaoyao appears to have a grandchild-grandma relationship with Madame Ping, the two are in fact not related by blood.

However,Genshin Impacttells more than just her personality and play style. While many players may have enjoyed the game without paying attention to the other aspects of her character, there are still plenty of interesting details to learn about her. From her background story to her relationships with other characters,Genshin Impactprovides a rich and unique insight into her character.
7Yaoyao’s Design Was Leaked Long Ago
A beta leak that was posted over two years ago featured eight new character models that were destined to join the playable roster in the foreseeable future. Of these, all but Yaoyao had been released by the time the 3.4 updates arrived. This included characters such as Hu Tao, Shenhe, Kokomi, Yunjin, and Kazuha. Surprisingly, Yaoyao was the only character from this list that had yet to be announced or released until 3.4, likely due to the fact that she is aDendro character, meaning her release had to wait until the Sumeru region was released.
Furthermore,Genshin Impact’s official artworks featuring Yaoyao have generated a great deal of anticipation and excitement leading up to her release, making her one of the most highly anticipated and welcomed additions to the game.
6Yaoyao’s Yuugei Is A Tracking Device
Yaoyao’s beloved pet rabbit mascot Yuegui was lovingly crafted by Cloud Retainer to keep her safe during her adventures, a testament to Adepti’s fondness for her. The device also serves as a tracking device, allowing Madame Ping to keep track of Yaoyao’s whereabouts - butCloud Retainercautions her to only use this function when absolutely necessary, so Yaoyao can retain her trust and privacy as she grows older.
While it is heartwarming to learn some more backstory about Yuegui and Yaoyao, it also demonstrates that Adepti have a vested interest in seeing Yaoyao grow up as any other human child would.
5Yaoyao’s Constellation Is Called Osmanthus
Genshin Impact’s long-term fans would have noticed that Osmanthus has been a word that is often used by Geo Archon Zhongli, when he reminisces about the sweet Osmanthus wine he used to drink with his friends, such as the original Archons, Azhdaha, and Guizhong. Osmanthus is a flower originating from East Asia and is now also mentioned inYaoyao’s constellation, which is aptly named Osmanthus.

Though Yaoyao has a connection to Adepti, her inclusion of this word likely references her distinctive characteristics, such as her Dendro vision and her general look, which is reminiscent of the color palette and style of an Osmanthus flower. Furthermore, her character demo is called Purity of the Blossoming Osmanthus, which further emphasizes her connection to this plant.
4Yaoyao and Qiqi Are Best Friends
Yaoyao and Qiqi are often depicted together inGenshin Impactartwork, which is reflective of their strong bond as best friends. While Qiqi doesn’t typically say much about Yaoyao in her voice lines, aside from the fact that she is cute, Yaoyao’s comments reveal a great deal more about the depth of their relationship.
In her voice lines, Yaoyao refers to Qiqi as her best friend but adds thatQiqisometimes forgets who Yaoyao was due to her amnesia. Accordingly, Yaoyao even asked Baizhu to see if there was a way to cure her amnesia, but sadly no cure exists. Thus, Yaoyao will have to keep reminding her of their friendship forever.
3Yaoyao Takes Care Of Ganyu
In her voice lines, Yaoyao expresses her concern forGanyuand her well-being, which is further evident in version 3.4’s Lantern Rite where she brings food for her. This implies that Yaoyao is like a doting younger sister to Ganyu, looking after the messier “big sister” with love and care.

Furthermore, Yaoyao goes the extra mile to ensure Ganyu’s well-being by monitoring her food intake and even posting on Wangshu Inn’s bulletin board. She requested that they refrain from putting chili peppers in Ganyu’s food due to her sensitive stomach, and to make her bed extra comfy to combat the effects of her constant over time.
2Yaoyao’s Release Date Is Special
Along with being a Dendro character, players had to wait over two years for her release for an extra special reason. Her debut in version 3.4 coincided with the Lantern Rite Festival, which mirrors the Chinese Lunar New Year.
While this is only a speculation, it is only logical to assume thatGenshin Impact’s developers have intentionally delayed Yaoyao’s release even after the introduction of theDendro elementto align with the coming of the Year of the Rabbit, which is thematically connected to Yuegui, Yaoyao’s pet rabbit.
1Yaoyao’s Birthday Is On March 6
Another special date, in this case, Yaoyao’s birthday, falls on the 6th of March—making her a Pisces, a sign that is perfectly suited to her compassionate and empathetic nature. Although March is a relatively quiet month when it comes toGenshin Impactcharacter birthdays, as it only includes Qiqi, Yaoyao, Shenhe, and Jean, it is wonderful to see that Yaoyao gets to share her birthday month with her best friend Qiqi and the other Adepti disciple, Shenhe.
Genshin Impactis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Switch version is in development.
