Final Fantasy 7 Remakenormally only allows players tocross-dress Cloudfor a brief stint in Chapter 9. And while Cloud’s wearing whatever dress the player earned for him, he can’t fight anyone and has his mobility limited. However, one fan has managed to find a way around this, allowing players to have Cloud in a dress throughout the whole game.

But those interested should note that this fan — Twitter user Pryna — didn’t accomplish this via a mod but rather “save editing,” which sees a user manipulate theirFinal Fantasy 7 Remakesave data to get results similar to a mod but not as effective. Regardless, the save editing done here achieves the same result one would generally use a mod for.

The edit allows players to controlCloud in any of his three dressesacross all 18 chapters of the game. So he can wear one during any cut-scene that features him, and while running around in combat. Also, while in battle —and just generally traversing the map — Cloud will keep the same mobility he has when not wearing a dress. He’ll also carry his Buster Sword on his back — or whatever weapon the player has equipped to him at the time.

The save edit works for Aerith as well. Players can have her running around in her “million-dollar” dress and heels while getting into fights and everything else. Also, just like Cloud, she’ll wear it in any cutscenes she appears in. Pryna doesn’t show offTifain their tweets, but if the editing works for Cloud and Aerith, there’s no reason it wouldn’t work for Tifa too.

The edit can run into problems, of course. Some glitches can occur whilecross-dressed Cloud is in combat, interrupting the whole experience — again, an editor isn’t as efficient as an actual mod. However, some of the glitches that occur are pretty funny to watch.

During the end of April, an edit from a save editor created by an individual namedXeeynamoallowed players toplay as Red XIII, albeit with some restrictions. Some of Pryna’s tweets show them playing as Red while Cloud wears his dress, so they’re more than likely using the same editor. So if anyone wants to make a run through FF7 Remake as cross-dressed Cloud and a fancily dressed Aerith and Tifa, they can check out Xeeynamo’s link.
