The Railroad has been watching the Sole Survivor since they emergedfrom Vault 111at the beginning of the game. Despite them knowing about the Sole Survivor, there is a lot about the organization that players might be missing. The organization is secretive, meaning there are many wastelanders who are Railroad agents.

The Sole Survivor is able to help the Railroadtake over settlements, allowing players to see how the group operates a little more. By talking to the organization members, otherwastelanders, and by exploring the Commonwealth, the player is able to discover a few more interesting details about the Railroad.
10Has An Institute Insider
The Railroad has an informant on the inside ofThe Institute. Liam Binet is a scientist at The Institute, but is also known by the codename Patriot. Liam helps escaped synths get in contact with the Railroad. Sadly, Liam will commit suicide as the war between the Railroad and The Institute rages on.
Liam’s body will be retrieved after The Institute is defeated at the end of the game. Liam will be buried at the Old North Church where the Railroad’s HQ is located.
9Uses Special Symbols
The Railroad uses symbols thatare very similarto the Thieve’s Guild symbols inThe Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The symbols can mean there are allies nearby, there is a cache, or there is a safehouse close by. These symbols can be found across the Commonwealth and can come in handy for anyone who knows what the symbol means.
Interestingly, an ally symbol can be found painted on Vault 81. This could mean that Vault 81 is helping the Railroad bring synths to safety.
8Entrance Found By Following The Freedom Trail
Players can discover the entrance to the Railroad HQ by following the Freedom Trail. This can allow players to pass by all of the historical buildings ofBoston, although players should be on the lookout for enemies along the way. Players will be able to pass by Paul Revere’s house, the cemetery containing many famous Revolutionary heroes, and the old State House.

The seals along the way will also reveal the password to the Railroad HQ. Creatively enough, the password to get in to the headquarters is the word ‘RAILROAD’.
7Have Their Own Special Stealth Boy
The Railroad have their own special version of the stealth boy available for players. They can be sold by Tinker Tom after the quest Memory Interrupted and two are given by Desdemona as rewards. These stealth boys allow the player to remain invisible for a longer amount of time.
While not too impressive, it can keep the player invisible for 10 seconds longer than a normal one. It might not seem like a lot, but sometimes those 10 seconds can come in handy.
6Appears In Fallout 3
The Railroad made their first appearance inFallout 3during the quest “The Replicated Man”. A synth is in Rivet City and an organization is helping him escape. The player is able to help the Railroad without even realizing it. A few other unexpected wastelanders are also members – or at least helpers – of the Railroad.
The adventurer Herbert Dashwood has a holotape containing information about the escaped synth – something only a member of the Railroad would have. The same is true of a Ghoul named Tulip, who can be found in Underworld.
5Hides Synths Using Memory Erasing and Plastic Surgery
The Railroad uses some doctors, such as Horace Pinkerton and Dr. Amari, to change the appearance of escaped synths. It is first discovered this is done inFallout 3,as players are told by Pinkerton he did so. Dr. Amari does the same in Goodneighbor, even going as far as erasing their memory.

This explains how synths are able to escape from The Institute’s reaches. While these doctors are not members of the Railroad themselves, they help out. It is good to know not everyone is hateful towards synths.
4Deacon Uses Disguises
Deacon is a member of the Railroad and a potential companion for the player. Deacon is probably known for telling Desdemona facts about what all they had done through the Commonwealth. For players wondering how he did this, there is a simple explanation.
Deacon can be found in disguisesat the major citiesof the Commonwealth. He can be seen at Diamond City, Goodneighbor, and Bunker Hill during the player’s first visit. Despite these being the only time he is seen, it could be assumed he has been following the Sole Survivor around.
3Will Try To Ally With Acadia
During theFar HarborDLC, a Railroad agent named Boxer was added to the game. If the player informs Boxer about the synth colony on the island, she will try to form an alliance. This is different from the other factions found in the game.

TheBrotherhood of SteelandThe Institutewill both destroy the synth settlement if told about it. Out of these options, it would be best to inform the Railroad about Acadia.
2Can Destroy The Prydwen
If the player sides with the Railroad, they are able to destroy the Prydwen. This comes as a surprise, as it would be assumed the Railroad did not have the tools to do so. By completing the quest “Rockets' Red Glare”, players can send the Prydwen crashing down on Boston Airport.
Players will be given explosions to set at important points in the airship. By wearing a Brotherhood of Steel uniform, the player is able to sneak aboard the ship and set the charges. After getting to a safe distance, they can watch as the airship comes crashing down.
1A Real Grave Found At HQ
It should be expected famous graves of Boston would be featured in the game. A grave for aWilliam Shippardcan be found in the Railroad HQ. What is interesting about this grave is that nothing is really known about the guy. There is not even a birth date, so no one knows how old he is.
In real life, the grave of William Shippard can be found buried underneath the Old North Church. Why Bethesda chose to include William’s grave is unknown.
