Fall Guys' meteoric rise in popularity has continued through the announcement of upcoming features through Gamescom. Players simply cannot get enough of the game, both in terms of playing and watching it on streaming sites. Players love it so much, they have even createdFall Guysobstacle courses inFortnite, emulating one super popular battle royale in the creative of another battle royale.
It’s not surprising when one considers all the aspects that makeFall Guysso popular. The simple, colorful visuals give the game a great, welcoming style. The gameplay is not only simple but visually interesting, meaning it is fun to both watch and play. Perhaps most genius of all are the Fall Guys themselves. The design of the bean-ish creatures is very simple while still being cute, allowing for many customization options that feel completely natural. Despite clearly being non-human, they have caught on rapidly as a likable design.

Because the game’s characters are so easy to design costumes for, many corporations and other games have already put forth designs. In terms of corporate brands, theFall GuysTwitter started a charity donation contest to determine what brand would be made into a costume. While thecontest was won at the last minute by a collaboration led by Ninja, it does not represent the full scope ofFall Guyscostumes. In addition to a Bullet Kin costume referencingEnter the Gungeon, another game published by Devolver Digital,Fall Guyshas several costumes that are references to Valve games likeHalf-LifeandPortal 2. Sticking with the theme,Fall Guyshas just released a new costume of Cell, the protagonist of bothPortalgames.
The costume features Cell’s signature Aperture top and half-jumpsuit, along with her hair. It also has a portal gun which, sadly, is almost certainly non-functional. The costume is, overall, a fitting sendup to a character who has to face her own, significantly more deadly platforming tests. It is slightly more elaborate thansome of the bestFall Guyscosmetics, and is a nice nod for players who love thePortalseries. Before this, Peabody was the only other representation, and was only made publicly available even more recently. While great, Peabody ensures the Fall Guy inside doesn’t exactly retain their iconic look. The Cell costume is a nice compromise.
With the recent trend ofPortalcostumes, one cannot help but wonder if the most famous character of thePortalseries, the A.I. GLaDOS, can be far behind. While her original, robotic form would have to be something like a boss, an obstacle akin toBig Yeetus, there is a way she could become a costume. For awhile, inPortal 2, GLaDOS became a potato, and a potato would make an easy costume for a Fall Guy.
What would be even cooler would be some elements from thePortalseries somehow making their way intoFall Guys.Players and level designers like RubberRoss have shared level ideasfreely, and theFall Guysdevs have clearly been developing new ideas of their own. The Portals fromPortalmight not work that wellFall Guys, but the various goos fromPortal 2might be a good addition, even if it’s a temporary one.
