AnElden Ringvideo has taken a closer look at the game’s strange, horn-wielding Oracle Envoys.Elden Ringis full of very odd enemies but few are as mysterious as the Oracle Enjoys, whose pale complexion and bulbous heads and bodies are as unsettling as they are cartoonish. They’re not mysterious because of their hidden bodies or heads, though, but rather because FromSoftware provides very little in terms of lore regarding the creatures inElden Ring.
What lore there is regarding the Oracle Envoys comes from three different descriptions. The first is for Envoy Crown helm, which explains that, “No one knows what the cloth hides, but some claim to have heard a faint whispering from inside.” The second description, taken from the Oracle Bubbles sorcery, mentions claymen priests of an ancient dynasty. Cryptically, it adds, “The claymen search for lost oracles within their bubbles.” Lastly, a description for theOracle Envoy Ashesdescribes them as appearing to herald “the arrival of a new god, or age.”

Zullie the Witch’s latest video delves into these mysterious creatures, both literally and figuratively. Unfortunately, a literal investigation of their model reveals no secrets. There’s nothing to find underneath their hats or robes. There’s no indication they’re made from clay other than what’s visible. Nevertheless, Zullie is able to posit some interesting theories from dataminingElden Ring.
According to Zullie’s analysis, the Envoys are referenced in three locations in-game. The first is Lleyndel, where the player themselves could end the era of the Erdtree and ascend to godhood. The second is the Haligtree, whereMaleniabecomes the god of rot (and where Miquella at least spiritually resides as well). The third is in the Deeproot, though they’ve been removed. Zullie wonders if they’re nearness to Godwyn could imply the undead prince’s story once ended in a much different way. Nevertheless, there’s clear truth to their gathering around potential gods.
Another interesting detail Zullie calls to attention is that the Envoy’s AI is referenced as “MoonServant.” Zullie’s theory is that the Envoys could once have been related toRanni and the Dark Moon, and perhaps an unfinished story around her ascending. However, there’s other evidence of this in-game, so it would have to have been changed early in development or otherwise pure speculation. One last detail worth digging into a bit further is that there are four versions of the Envoy referenced inElden Ring’s files. Three are in-game, with the fourth referenced as a “Baby.” It’s perhaps a clue to the “faint whispering” inside the Envoys' hats. Perhaps they reproduce within themselves and then grow larger over time.
As with so many creatures, monsters, and enemies in FromSoftware’s games,Elden Ring’s Oracle Envoys are incredibly interesting to consider. There’s more to them than whatFromSoftwareis sharing, and that’s both torturous and exciting - which is what the studio does best.
