Elden Ringis a massive open world game with a dizzying amount of content for players to explore, but it seems not everything survived the development process. Data miners and the like have dug throughElden Ring’s files since the game’s launch, discovering all kinds of interesting things that were apparently left on the cutting room floor. For example, one data miner discovered evidence that there once wereplans forElden Ringto have a bestiary.
Evidence of even more cutElden Ringcontent has now appeared online, with the latest revealed by YouTuber Lance McDonald, who uploaded a video on it. The newly discovered cut content revolves around anElden Ringquest that didn’t make it to the final product, which players would have received by speaking with an NPC named Monk Jiko, who is nowhere to be found in the game despite having a finished character model and recorded dialogue.

The ultimate goal of this particularElden Ringquest was to deliver Dream Mist to Monk Jiko, which players could obtain from sleeping animals in the open world using a special item calledSt. Trina’s Crystal Ball. By giving Dream Mist to Monk Jiko,Elden Ringplayers would get Dreambrew in return, which in turn could be given to various NPCs to make them sleep. While the NPCs were sleeping,Elden Ringplayers could learn what they were dreaming about, with an example given in the video actually alluding to one ofElden Ring’s possible endings.
In Lance McDonald’s video, viewers see the player character go through these steps with Monk Jiko. The player character visits the merchant at the Church of Elleh, one of the first churches that players visit in the game, and offers him the Dreambrew. While the merchant is dreaming, a message appears that says his sleep is disturbed “by a nightmare of his eyes being burned by the frenzied flame.” TheElden RingFrenzied Flame endingis considered the “bad” ending of the game, though it is one of the endings that players have to get if they want to unlock all the achievements.
It seems that this Monk Jiko quest would have spanned acrossElden Ring’s open worldand featured various other NPCs and steps. However, FromSoftware ultimately decided to cut the quest before launching the game, for reasons that are currently unknown. It’s always possible that FromSoftware will restore this content in a future update, but no plans to that effect have been announced at this time, so all fans can do is wonder what could’ve been.
Elden Ringis out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
