The Pouch is a very useful feature inthe action-rpgknown asElden Ring, giving players quick access to four items of their choosing. However, the way to assign items to a Pouch is not made very clear in-game, and some fans may even be uncertain about how to use their Pouch items when they have been equipped.

Being able to use the exact item you want during combat and knowing exactly how to do that is a huge help in some of the more complicated or even difficult boss battles. Additionally, knowing how to easily swap your more commonly used items into a Quick Pouch slot is already incredibly helpful. We’ve known Elden Ring players who have gone through most of the game without having their Spectral Steed Whistle on a quick slot, for example, and that just sounds so incredibly painful. To avoid this scenario, we’ve detailed how exactly the Item Pouch, Quick Pouch, and more work in Elden Ring as well as how to slot items into them.
How To Access Pouch
Youcan access your pouch inElden Ringsimply by pressing the Menu input on their controller/keyboard, which brings up the tabbed list of selectable menus on the left, the emotes list on the bottom right, and the Pouch on the top right. The default Menu Input on each control type forElden Ringis:

You should see four slots with assigned D-Pad inputs and two slots with no inputs - these twoElden Ringpouch slots can only be used if selected directly from this menu, which is still faster than going through the inventory. To select a slot in the Pouch, simply scroll to the right on the D-pad while the main menu is open, or alternatively scroll up from the emotes list.
How To Put Items In Pouch
To assign a new item to the Quick Select Pouch, scroll over to it and press the highlighted ‘Switch’ input, which we’ve listed for each platform below:

Doing so will then open the expanded inventory so that you can select the item or consumable to slot in here. After selecting, the screen will go back to the main menu where the newly assigned item – consumable, key item, throwable, or otherwise – should be available for use, provided you have at least one in the inventory when pressing the input.
How to Use Pouch Items in Elden Ring
So You’ll Be Able To Use Them Even In Hectic Combat Situations
After assigning items to the pouch, you can then actually them by holding the Interact button (listed in the table above) and the D-Pad input you slotted the time into.For example, using an item in the upmost Quick Pounch Slot on PS4/PS5 would be △+D-Pad Up. It’s very simple thanks to the in-game UI. As you hold down the Interact button, the bottom left menu shows your pouch slots instead of equipped Quick Items and armaments.
This allows the Pouch to essentially function as a quick-select wheel, albeit with fewer options than a quick-select wheel, but still. However, remember that the bottom two slots in the six-slot pouch do not show up here and must be used directly from the menu. The difference here is that Quick Items are the 10 items that you may swap between using the down directional input, and are used by pressing X, Square, or R on PC. Only one can be accessed at a time, meaning you have to flip between equipped items to use them, which can be a bit hectic during combat.
Elden Ringpouch items, on the other hand, can be accessed at the same time by holding the Interact button, making them much faster to use on average.Generally, it’s best to keep the Quick Items bar free except for Flasks for ease of swapping in the heat of combat and use the pouch for consumables and other items.
Best Pouch Items in Elden Ring
A Whistle, Some Spirit Ashes, A Few Consumables, & A Lantern
Some items are more useful in the pouch than others, at least according the vast majority ofElden Ringplayers. For example, the Spectral Steed Whistle is a popular one to have in the pouch to make mounting Torrent much quicker overall. Other good choices that people seem to rely on are:
A good layout for first-timeElden Ringplayers is tohave Torrent equipped to the top slot, a Spirit Ash on the left or right slot, some sort of preferred consumable for the left/right slot you didn’t use yet, and the Lantern on the bottom slotfor easy access to light in caves and other darkened areas. The two other slots can be used for Prattling Pates, placing messages, and other consumables that don’t need to be used in the midst of combat.
