Dota 2is getting a brand new mega kills announcer voice pack, this time featuringCave JohnsonofPortalfame. The reveal was made in a new teaser that hypes up the release while also poking a lot of fun at Valve itself.
Back in 2018,Dota 2received a Gabe Newell announcer pack, in which the Valve President delivers announcements in his usual dry intonations. It’s a stark contrast to the frenetic action that’s seen on-screen, but that’s part of what fans liked so much about it.

It’s been several years since then, and according to the teaser video, the game developer decided it was time for a new mega kills announcer voice pack forDota 2. This time, though, they’re bringing JK Simmons on board to provide the voice. While the actor is likely best known for his performances on the silver screen, he also provides the voice of Cave Johnson, Aperture Science founder from thePortalseries. While the trailer doesn’t include any of the lines he’ll actually be voicing in the game, the actor makes a brief vocal cameo at the end of the video.
Portalis a Valve classic at this point, with Cave Johnson adding a great deal of humor to the second iteration of the franchise. As players explore the forgotten places of Aperture Science, his voice over can occasionally be heard, explaining tests and speaking to employees. He also more recently reprised the role forAperture Desk Job, which is essentially a simplistic game introducing users to the Steam Deck’s controls and capabilities. However, it also reveals some unexpected secrets about Aperture Science itself, and the ultimate fate of Cave Johnson himself.
Fans don’t have long to wait, as the Cave JohnsonDota 2announcer pack will arrive alongside the Battle Pass: Part 2, on November 3. WhileDota 2players with a fondness forPortalare likely looking forward to the voice pack, some are curious about the release and its potential ties to recent rumors regarding Valve. The most recent of these is that Valve may be working on aDota 2spin-off called Neon Prime, whileHalf-Lifefans are wondering what the alleged Citadel project is all about. Bringing JK Simmons back in could indicate that Cave Johnson could appear in a futurePortalgame, but Valve is keeping its plans tightly under wraps. Until the company makes an official announcement, fans will have to keep wondering. For now,Dota 2fans will at least be able to enjoy the snarky-yet-charming lines coming from Cave Johnson himself.
