An Early Access weekend forDiablo 4just concluded for those who had pre-purchased the highly anticipated action role-playing game, which allowed players to spend as long as they wished slaying demons throughout opening zone, Fractured Peaks.

Last weekend was the first taste ofDiablo 4for many fans and newcomers alike, granting those who had pre-ordered the title an opportunity to create a Barbarian, Rogue, or Sorcerer, and experience a modest amountof what the next game from Blizzard Entertainment has to offer. The sentiment has been ostensibly positive, and the community remains cautiously optimistic despite connection issues, a notable class imbalance, and disappointing dungeon randomization. It is unlikely that any of these criticisms will be addressed by March 24, whenDiablo 4will be available for anyone to try, but there is one notable difference between the two beta periods.

The Druid and Necromancer are due to join the class roster and be available for players during the open beta period. Prior restrictions, such as the level 25 cap, are to remain in effect, but the additional classes will be able to experience everything that was present as part of the early access period. Although the characters created for either beta will not be transferableupon the official release ofDiablo 4, players can earn two titles and a cosmetic item that will carry over by reaching certain milestones.

Thus far,Diablo 4’s tone, story, and fundamental gameplay have been some of the most celebrated aspects of the title, with players thoroughly engaged by the cinematics and moment-to-moment combat. While the world’s aesthetic has seen similar praise, some have feltlet down byDiablo 4’s user interface, who claim that it negatively contrasts with the style and mood of the game.

Others have levied criticisms toward the apparent imbalance between classes, dubbing the Sorcerer asDiablo 4’s “Easy-Mode.” Many of the boss encounters and their mechanics have felt challenging for the melee-focused Barbarian, whereasSorcerers are able to avoid them entirelyand fight at range with magic. Given that the beta only showcased what would be considered early-game content, it is possible that this narrative becomes less distinct or is even reversed entirely by endgame progression, but Blizzard may want to address the rather obvious power disparity that is so evident upon startingDiablo 4.
