The day manyDestiny 2players have been waiting for finally happened earlier as the community finally finished stage 7 of the Empryean Foundation. After donating the 9,777,777,700 fractaline needed to finish the challenge, the rumors surroundingTrials of Osiris were confirmed by Bungiethrough a new trailer. As exciting as that was, the reveal also confirmed more than a few player fears for the season 10 mode and its potential balance.
In a new post on theDestiny 2subReddit, one player reiterated the fact that the season artifact should be disabled for the upcoming Trials of Osiris mode. Their post caught the eye of Cozmo23, one of the community managers on the game, who confirmed that the artifact and its bonus power levels will be active for players who participate. He elaborated that Bungie is aware of the community concerns and will continue to keep an eye on data and feedback once Season 10 arrives.

The response clearly didn’t sit well with many fans who feared thatthe added power levels will cause balancing issues, favoring players who spend more time in the game than those who don’t. The community is now worried that the highly anticipated pinnacle PvP mode will lose its competitiveness after the first couple of weeks when players who are able to grind out XP at an increased rate will have a big advantage in this mode. Many continue to champion the idea that the end game mode should focus more on player skill rather than who spends more time playing.
The first indication that power was important in Trials came inside of the reveal trailer wheresnippets of gameplayshowed that power-level advantages were active. It’s unclear how or if Bungie plans to attempt some sort of balancing act for this mode, though some theories suggest that player health and damage pools could be boosted based on the numbers seen in the trailer.
Unfortunately for Bungie, this announcement doesn’t satisfy a player base that has started to become ornery. While the season 9 grind and lack of clear end game pursuits has taken its toll on more than a few players, last week’s news regardingupcoming weapon nerfs was not received wellwith fans. Bungie’s reasoning for nerfing popular weapons types like Sniper and Fusion Rifles was that data showed players relied on them too much and gave them too much safety in many encounters. Fans shot back by saying gameplay designs including the Boss Stomp mechanic prevented players from getting close to enemies while also instantly killing them in the process.
