One ofDestiny 2: Witch Queen’s main features was the release of the long-awaited Void 3.0 ability rework, which is proving to be a success by most measures. Though the Hunters' ability kit was brought into question and remains a bit of a sore spot, things are certainly looking up, and the community is generally happy with Bungie’s changes.Void 3.0 is only the first of the three upcoming ability reworks forDestiny 2, however. Bungie had previously confirmed that Arc 3.0 would be coming in Season 17, with Solar 3.0 almost certainly bound to launch alongside Season 18, but now it’s been revealed that there’s a cheeky preview of Arc 3.0 already available in the game.RELATED:Destiny 2 Players ask Bungie to Improve Wellspring Activity Drop RatesOne of Bungie’s lead Sandbox gameplay developers, Kevin Yanes, has taken to Twitter to assert his previous statement thatSeason of the RisenSynaptic Spear Artifactis a preview of Arc 3.0. According to Yanes, speed and mobility will be absolutely crucial for Arc subclasses, and Arc-loving Guardians can already take part in Season 16’s Psy-Op Battlegrounds activity to see what to expect out of the game in that respect.
When facing off against Hive Lightbearers in their mindscape, Guardians also need to deal with the Lightbearers' mental projection of Savathun herself. The Synaptic Spear, one of thehighlights ofDestiny 2Season 16, comes into play here, as player Guardians can pick it up and use it to deal massive damage to Savathun quickly and easily. Yanes specifically references the fact that Spear also allows guardians to double-blink across the battlefield, pull off huge jumps, and slide ahead at an increased speed.
WhereasDestiny 2’s Void 3.0 changesfocused primarily on enemy suppression and opening up high-powered foes to increased damage, Arc 3.0 will deliver greatly increased attack speed (presumably in melee combat), increased player mobility, and the option to chain lightning attacks with one another. Solar 3.0 is vaguer in this respect, but Bungie confirmed that players ought to expect increased burn damage and healing capabilities.
That being said, Yates also confirmed that players shouldn’t expect their Arc 3.0 abilities to be quite as potent as the Synaptic Spear is. Instead, this seems to be a mechanical representation of the sort of fantasy Bungie will be going for with Arc 3.0 in general. If theHunters' Moebius Quiver inDestiny 2Season 16is anything to go by, however, even classes that the community considers underwhelming at first might be considerably more powerful than anyone expected.
Destiny 2: Witch Queenis now available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
