Despite releasing six years ago,Dead by Daylightis still one of the most popular games around right now. With the game receiving constant updates over the last few years,Dead by Daylighthas managed to keep fans engaged. Now, with 26 killers, 29 survivors, and 16 maps,Dead by Daylightis one of thebiggest asymmetrical multiplayer games of all time.
ButDead by Daylightisn’t without its faults. With all the new content being added to the game, some mechanics get overlooked, and despite releasing a regular stream of patches, some features still don’t quite work as well as they should.Dead by Daylight’s “Hemorrhage” status effect is one such feature, often being called “useless” by the community. However, with a new patch on the way, it seems as though Hemorrhage may finally become a worthwhile status effect.

Up until now,Dead by Daylight’s Hemorrhage status effect would make a player’s character bleed profusely, dropping large pools of blood wherever they went for a certain amount of time. This would, in theory, give the killer a clearer trail to follow, and therefore makecatching the woundedDead by Daylightplayereasier.
In reality, however, Hemorrhage never really worked as intended. As Hemorrhage mainly increases the frequency at which blood is spilled from the survivor, it’s often the case that the survivor can easily confuse the killer by just strafing around the environment erratically, leading to blood being strewn everywhere.
Similarly, blood caused by Hemorrhage is still quite dark in color. This is problematic, as most ofDead by Daylight’s mapsare set at night in dark areas like an enclosed wood, so following a survivor’s trail can be pretty difficult and time-consuming. To make the most of Hemorrhage, killers would also need to use the Bloodhound perk, which highlights blood distinctly for a few seconds. While this can be useful, it’s not nearly as helpful as most ofDead by Daylight’s other perks or status effects.
Just a few days ago,Dead by Daylightdeveloper,Behaviour Interactive, announced a few upcoming changes to the game. Along with some tweaks coming to a few survivor abilities, Behaviour is also changing how Hemorrhage is going to function.
As opposed to just increasing the frequency of how much blood would appear around a survivor, Hemorrhage will now drain a player’s health continuously until they can heal. Right now, the Hemorrhage status effect will drain 7% of a player’s health every second. This means that if a player is at full health, then it’ll only take 14 seconds for them to succumb to their wounds if they aren’t able to heal in time.
This is a pretty drastic change to the status effect, and may go a long way in actually making it a viable effect to use in killer builds. Where players could previously just loop around the killer until the Hemorrhage effect had timed out, this new version will force players to find a safe spot and heal, giving the killer a few crucial seconds to strike.
This new version of Hemorrhage is still being monitored inDead by Daylight’s public test build, so this may not be its final iteration. That said, if the final version of this status effect resembles this proposed version at all, then it’s certain to shake up the game quite a bit.
