Netflix reported that over 64 million households watchedStranger Things 3within the first four weeks of its release. While details on the upcoming season have been kept under wraps, Harbour toldColliderthat the newest season doesn’t take place in Hawkins anymore and is bigger in scope. “We’re introducing new stuff, but we’re also tightening and wrapping up in a certain direction to make it have a clear, clean specific, and definite ending at some point, which I can’t really talk about,” said the Tony and Emmy-nominated actor.The Duffer Brothers have previously assertedthat the fourth season ofStranger Thingswon’t be the show’s last.
Before noting thatStranger Thingsseason 4 is a big, beautiful season that features some surprises fans know nothing about, Harbour noted thatStranger Thingsseason fouris his favorite because it shows the stubborn Hopper at his most vulnerable. “He gets to have a rebirth from what he had become, and we’d always sort of planned this almost resurrection of you have Gandalf dies, Gandalf the Grey re-emerge, and I’m really interested in this resurgence of him,” said the actor, while adding, “we get to explore a lot of threads in his life that have merely been hinted at that we get to see a lot more of.” Of course, Gandalf is the famous wizard who thrusts Frodo Baggins and company on the journey that would be the focus of J. R. R. Tolkien’sLord of the Ringsnovels. The role of Gandalf was played by Sir Ian McKellen in Peter Jackson’s feature film adaptation of the trilogy.
This July, Harbour can be seen alongside Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, and Scarlett Johansson inCate Shortland’sBlack Widow. The Phase 4 Marvel Studios film centers on Natasha Romanoff’s family and history as a Russian spy and takes place after the events ofCaptain America: Civil War. Furthermore,Black Widowwill be released simultaneously in theatres and on Disney Plus andis one of four Marvel Studios films that’s scheduled to premiere this year.
Harbour’s Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian serves as a father figure to Johansson’s Romanoff and Pugh’s Belova and is the Soviet equivalent of Captain America. Created by Roy Thomas and John Buscema, Shostakov first appeared in 1967’sThe Avengers#43. The character was previously featured in the animated seriesAvengers Assembleand the animeMarvel Future Avengers.
