Gwent: The Witcher Card Gameis one of the most popular offshoot projects that came from CD Projekt Red’s flagship RPG,The Witcher 3. It would seem, however, that CDPR isn’t done with Gwent just yet, because it has another standaloneGwentgame currently in development -Project Golden Nekker.
According to IGN,Project Golden Nekkeris going to be a bit different from otherGwentexperiences that CD Projekt Red had delivered in the past. From what little information is currently available, the game is going to be at least tentatively similar toThronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, as it’s going to be aGwent-focused single-player experience of some sort.

Specifically,Project Golden Nekker- which doesn’t necessarily seem to be the game’s official title - is currently being produced by CD Projekt Red’s dedicatedGwentteam, who maintain and update otherGwent-related titles. The team also has experience in delivering post-launchcontent updates forGwent: The Witcher Card Game, as well as with the standaloneThronebreakerGwentgame, which served as a sort of prequel toThe Witchertrilogy.
While the premise ofGolden Nekkercertainly sounds similar to what players had seen inThronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, CDPR claims otherwise: “It’s not anotherWitcher Talesbut something different,” said Paweł Burza, theGwentCommunications Lead.Thronebreakerhad launched on a variety of platforms(including iOS and Android) in 2020, and was met with critical acclaim.
According to Burza, CDPR’sGwentteam is “aiming to provide a captivating single-player for players who prefer it over competitive multiplayerGwent.” The team was also excited to share the very first artwork showcase forGolden Nekker, featuring the titular corpse-munching beast. It may also be worth pointing out that theNekker is one of the best cardsinThe Witcher 3in the first place.
With the upcoming release ofCyberpunk 2077’s Patch 1.5,The Witcher 3’s next-gen update, and all-new projects such asGolden Nekkerseemingly in full swing, CD Projekt Red must have its hands full at any given moment. SinceGwenthas a dedicated team of developers, however, the company’s mainstream productions shouldn’t be affecting one another all that much.Project Golden Nekkermay be coming out sometime before the end of 2022, but there’s no official word on that topic just yet.
Gwent: The Witcher Card Gameis currently available on PC, macOS, PS4, and Xbox One platforms, as well as iOS and Android mobile phones.
