Fans ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2are unhappy with the new ‘09 Weapon Audio Bundle, with many claiming the gun sounds don’t sound like the originals. The ‘09 Weapon Audio Bundle was released as part ofSeason 3 ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2,and was a nice surprise for long-time fans of the franchise.

This time around, it seems as though Infinity Ward is really struggling to win fans over. The developer has always been a fan-favorite with theCall of Dutytitles, but this cycle has been a particular struggle. A lot of it is centered aroundCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s playlists, which the studio keeps disrupting before players can get comfortable. This latest audio debacle will do little to settle those that have been less than satisfied with the game so far.

The video by JoeyAKangaroo points out the complaint that many have about the pack - many of the guns simply don’t sound like their 2009 counterparts. They point this out with a direct video comparison, showcasing how the guns sounded back in the originalModern Warfare 2, and how they sound in the new title. There’s no denying that they don’t really sound similar. OneCall of Dutyfan showed what the 2022 game actually sounds like with the 2009 effectsa while ago, and the differences are pretty stark.

When they were first released, fans were angry about the audio microtransactions inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and a month later it’s a shame to see they haven’t lived up to fan expectations. Some in the thread pointed out that it could be a result of how low-quality the original sounds were compared to modern standards, with the advances in sound design potentially affecting how the sounds are in the new game. However, those wanting modern sound design wouldn’t be purchasing a 2009 sound pack. Those picking up the DLC will surely be well aware that there could be a trade-off in quality, but actually sounding like the original sounds should be the bare minimum here.

It will be interesting to see if Infinity Ward makes any changes to the sounds to bring them more in line with what players expected upon release. They could even choose to add more sounds to the pack, with other weapons present in both titles. When Infinity Wardbrought back the Intervention inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it was definitely a surprise to see it omitted from the sound pack. The iconic sound of the Intervention is arguably its defining feature, so there’s real potential for its classic sound to be an option in the future.

Call of Duty:Modern Warfare 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
