The canon ending forBlack Ops 2has both Chloe and Menendez survive the events of the game, resulting in an alliance between the US and China, ending the war.
In addition to the main ending, there is a secondary ending that changes depending on whether fan favorite character Alex Mason survives. If Mason lives, he visits Frank Woods in retirement, reuniting with Section. If Mason dies, Section and Woods visit Mason’s grave and Section announces his retirement from the military. Unlike the main ending, Mason’s fate has never been made canon, leaving fans to theorize whether the CIA agent survived. In an interview with GamesBeat, associate creative director at Treyarch Miles Leslie confirmed Mason’s fate. Treyarch Has Unfortunate News For Fans of Alex Mason
While this most likely means little for the story ofBlack Ops 6, it may be disheartening toBlack Opsfans. In the ending ofBlack Ops 2where Mason lives, the character goes into hiding for 30 years, meaning the chances he would appear inBlack Ops 6, which takes place in the 90s, were very unlikely. Despite this,Alex Mason was a fan favorite character, and fans can no longer hold onto the hope that he survived the events ofBlack Ops 2.
Despite Alex Mason being gone,Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s campaign will connect directly toBlack Ops 2.
