Destiny 2fans remember Forsaken fondly for a number of reasons. It revitalized the game through its new enemy types, fresh location, and a risky story that killed off the series’ most beloved character. It also brought a number of powerful exotics for players to wield against the Darkness, like theAce of Spades Hand Cannon. However, while most of Forsaken received plenty of well deserved praise from fans, one aspect of the expansion went under the radar: its extra Trophies.
The original Trophy list forDestiny 2is relatively basic, with the hardest task asking players to finish a Grandmaster Nightfall - something that most fans will have done a long time ago. Fortunately, Forsaken brought a few DLC Trophies for players to work toward, ranging from collecting exotics and finishing a dungeon to working on Triumphs. Having these bonus tasks to work toward could keep players invested for reasons beyond the game itself, pushing Trophy and achievement hunters to spend more time withDestiny 2.

Post-Launch Trophies in Destiny 2 Are Worth Bringing Back
Much like howCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold WarZombies abandoned extra Trophieswith its DLC maps, even though they used to be a regular occurrence,Destiny 2has not released a bonus Trophy set since Forsaken. Considering how much content was in Witch Queen, and how the seasonal approach regularly brings fresh tasks to work on, this feels like a massive missed opportunity on Bungie’s part.
While players may not care enough to go for an in-game title on their own, tying a Trophy to that title could be the extra push gamers need to put in the work required to unlock it. Similarly, though players may not care enough to grabNeomuna’s action figures or Europa’s penguins, they could be incentivized to do so with a Trophy as opposed to only an in-game challenge. Trophies can push players to engage with all aspects of a DLC instead of picking and choosing the ones that they enjoy the most, ensuring that none of Bungie’s hard work goes unseen by players.
It is hard to imagine the extra Trophies requiring much effort to add, either. Plenty of games regularly add extra Trophies to collect, whether it be forMinecraft’s updates orOverwatch 2’s new heroes. These achievements make a release feel just a bit more special, and though the Trophy hunting community is niche, it only makes sense for Bungie to try capturing the interest of that group. Even a few hundred more players could be beneficial forDestiny 2, and a handful of extra Trophies to chase with each expansion could reinvigorate the game for those who care about their Gamerscore or Trophy level.
Perhaps the biggest thing getting in the way of additional Trophies for the game isDestiny 2’s content vault, but Bungie could work around this by tying the Trophies to content that it does not plan on vaulting. Instead of Trophies for finishing a campaign, achievements could be tied to collecting Exotics from the DLC - just like with Forsaken’s Trophies - or finishing the raid that drops alongside the new content. Updating the Trophies to have different unlock parameters if the content ever is vaulted is an option too, so there would be ways to work around that issue.
WhileDestiny 2has continued to expand, the same can not be said for its Trophy list, as it feels odd to see nothing added despite all the content that has come to the game. Weapon crafting, ornament creation, and light level increases all provide opportunities for more achievements to collect, andBungieshould capitalize on that opportunity. Everyone may not care about extra Trophies, but those who do will really appreciate the gesture, and a fresh batch of objectives could keep them hooked onDestiny 2.
Destiny 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
