With the start of James Gunn’s DCU, the door is wide open for actors to appear as DC characters. Recently, it was revealed thatBreaking Badstar Giancarlo Esposito could play a part in theDC Universe.

Before the actors went on strike, Gunn was casting for the firstDC Universemovie,Superman: Legacy. Gunn has already cast David Corenswet as the DCU’s Man of Steel and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Recently, at Comic-Con Panama, Esposito was asked if there was a chance that he may appear in DC films. Esposito responded, “I have been talking to James Gunn about the possibility… about being in a movie, so who knows, it could happen soon.” These talks would have to have happened before the strikes, and Gunn mentioned recently thatcasting for the DCU’s Batman moviehas been slow, so it is likely that this role was forSuperman: Legacy.

The X user who posted the video also reported that Esposito knows fans think he would be agood casting choice for X-Men’s Professor X, Magneto, and Mr. Freeze. However, he reportedly said he would prefer to play a superhero rather than a villain, which would knock out Magneto and Mr. Freeze. Furthermore, Esposito seemingly believes he will be hired in one of the Marvel or DC projects eventually.

Fans are used to Esposito playing the cold villain role, such as Gus Fring inBreaking Bad, Moff Gideon inThe Mandalorian, Stan Edgar inThe Boys, and Anton Castillo inFar Cry 6. However, he seemingly wants a change of pace if he gets cast in either Marvel or DC, which many fans would be excited to see. Although many fans believehe would make a good Lex Luthor, Brainiac, or Freeze, the hero fan casting he seems to get a lot is Martian Manhunter.

Fans are excited to hear that Esposito may join the DCU and wait for Gunn to confirm the role. However, Gunn and Esposito won’t be able to discuss possible roles until after the strike, meaning fans must wait until the labor dispute ends for any more news about what character he might play.

Superman: Legacyis scheduled to be released on June 28, 2025.
