With multiple spin-offs and several main games, theBorderlandsseries has grown to include a huge lineup of beloved characters.Iconic villains like Handsome Jackhave appeared alongside divisive figures like Ava, while the playable Vault Hunters have grown more interesting through their later appearances. As the series has grown, though, it has become harder and harder to give each character proper time to shine.

OneBorderlandscharacter that consistently gets pushed into the background despite her popularity is Mad Moxxi. While Moxxi’s role as Sanctuary’s bartender ensured that players can always visit her, she had very little impact on the main narratives forBorderlands 2andBorderlands 3. However, both games featured expansions that showed her making moves to gain power, andBorderlands 4should showcase what she does with her newfound wealth.

Though Mad Moxxi may not befighting alongside the Vault Hunters like Lilith, she has consistently been making moves to improve her position within theBorderlandsuniverse. The first example of this is seen in theBorderlands 2DLC Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage, though it has not yet had a payoff of any kind.

While this particularBorderlands 2DLCfeatured some memorable moments, like Tiny Tina training the Vault Hunters and the debut of Mr. Torgue himself, Moxxi’s acquisition of the Torgue Arena is particularly interesting. While she clearly wanted the arena, as she blackmailed Torgue into signing over the rights to the building, it is unclear what she does with it afterwards. It clearly seems to be profitable based on what was seen of it during the DLC, and perhaps Moxxi could restart her Underdome to make some serious cash. For now, though, fans are left to speculate about the Torgue Arena’s fate.

Her hunt for real estate continued inBorderlands 3’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot DLC, which saw her hiring the Vault Hunters to help her seize the massive outer space casino. They eventually succeeded in doing so, getting Moxxi another way to make a profit. However, that is not the only thing that she got her hands on, as the Jack’s Secret are of the casino revealed a hidden army of Hyperion bots.

With the casino taken over, Moxxi not only has another big cash flow, but a private military all to herself. What she uses all this for is anyone’s guess, but no matter what she does with it, her quiet accumulation of resources should be highlighted inBorderlands 4. Whether she gives the reprogrammed Hyperion bots to the Crimson Raiders or uses them for her own gains, this is an interesting development that should absolutely be expanded upon. If she was interested, she would likely have enough money to purchase one ofBorderlands’ weapon manufacturersas well. Given how popular her weapons have been in past games, more Moxxi-made guns would surely be a hit with fans.

Not only has Gearbox shownMoxxibuilding an empire as the series progresses, but she is simply too fun of a character to keep on the sidelines. InBorderlands 2andBorderlands 3, players only hear from her on sidequests. While her clash with Killavolt is certainly entertaining, limiting her innuendo to some optional content and the Broadcast Tower Crew Challenges is a shame. Hopefully, Moxxi takes on a larger role in the next majorBorderlandsgame, bringing her trademark sense of humor and smart business moves to the forefront of the narrative.
