Squad-based, tactical shooters are prolific, but not too many are set within the galaxy far, far away. Many fans would agree, however, thatRepublic Commandoknocked it out of the park.

Although the modding community for this game isn’t huge, there are still a few diamonds in the rough that can make this classic title even better.

What Republic Commando’s modding community lacks in numbers, they more than make up for in dedication and creativity. This list has been updated with a few more mods that fans of the game should definitely try the next time they intend on installing this blast from the past.
10NoctisSpector’s Tweaks – Weapon Rework
A game as old asStar Wars: Republic Commandosinevitably needs a lot of work. Although the modding community for the game isn’t too extensive, there are a couple of worthwhile mods that help improve various aspects of the title. In a game where the look and utility of weapons are obviously important, it’s no surprise that plenty of the available mods try to tackle the subject.
NoctisSpector’s Tweaksis an ongoing project that seeks to alter certain gameplay and graphical elements ofRepublic Commandos. The current version of the mod deals with weapon reworks. The stats of various weapons are tweaked, such as damage, maximum ammo, spread, etc. A handful of new weapons for players to experiment with are added as well.
9Republic Commando: Remaster/Reskin
It may be hard to believe, but there are still new mods being developed forRepublic Commandosby a collection of dedicated authors. Many mods invariably try to upscale the graphics, a much-needed fix considering the game’s advanced age.

Republic Commando: Remaster/Reskinis a newer mod that attempts to make the game easier on the eyes. The mod improves the game’s textures, effectively sharpening their resolutions. The mod is still in its early stages but is a worthwhile project to support while its scope hopefully expands in the future.
8Order 66
Due to the relatively small pool of mods available forRepublic Commando, players may want to consider some of the older add-ons on offer. Although theOrder 66mod may be a bit dated, fans can still enjoy the fun of storming the Jedi Temple as depicted inRevenge of the Sith. That, along with a host of other missions, extendsRepublic Commando’s longevity for players who want alittle more out of this classic gem.
7Arc Trooper
It’s true that a game likeStar Wars: Republic Commandowon’t possess too many total conversion mods. However, there is one total conversion mod that is pretty well regarded by fans. Although it’s a bit of an old mod,Arc Trooperis still worth trying when deciding to reinstall the game.
The mod contains a variety of enhancements that spices up the core gameplay. Higher resolution, HD textures are implemented as well as new animations. There’s also a separate map pack mod that goes along with Arc Trooper that adds new locations and campaigns. Arc Trooper is certainly one of the more impressive projects available for the game.
6Widescreen HUD Fix
As stated previously,Star Wars: Republic Commandoreceiveda port on the Nintendo Switchand PS4. One of the many problems of trying to play an old game on modern hardware is the screen resolution. Either the game doesn’t fit the screen, or if it does, it appears stretched.

TheWidescreen HUD Fixmod helps to alleviate that problem. With this mod installed, HUD elements appear correctly when playing on larger, widescreen resolutions. In particular, crosshairs are now centered as they should be, allowing for a much smoother gameplay experience.
5TeamXtreme WarPack
AlthoughStar Wars: Republic Commandocontained a multiplayer mode, it’sprimarily remembered for its singleplayer campaign. Nevertheless, modders have upped the ante when it comes to the game’s multiplayer component.
TheTeamXtreme WarPackmod adds a massive host of multiplayer features. Over 250 maps are included, along with new weapons and factions. In addition, 12 game modes ensure players and their friends won’t run out of things to do anytime soon.
4Slightly Remastered
It’s not uncommon for talented mod authors to take it upon themselves to remaster a game. When thinking about reinstallingStar Wars: Republic Commando, it’s highly recommended the player take a serious look at theSlightly Remasteredmod.

Although the mod doesn’t retooleveryelement of the game, it still improves upon many key areas of the gameplay. For example, the intelligence of the player’s AI squadmates is improved considerably. Other small quality of life changes are included as well. Overall, the mod allows for a tighter experience without drastically changing the core vanilla mechanics.
3Graphics Fix
Older games that no longer receive regular updates from the developers can sometimes bevolatile on modern hardware.Star Wars: Republic Commandois no exception considering it still contains a few annoying graphical bugs. On new computers, these problems are assuredly irritating.
Graphics Fixis an incredibly helpful mod that should relieve some headaches. More specifically, it eliminates bump mapping issues, which tends to make the game crash. It’s also great when used in conjunction with other mods (like Slightly Remastered), making them more stable.
2Ultrawide HUD & Crosshair Fix
This mod serves as a nice alternative to the previously mentioned Widescreen HUD Fix and gives fans more options when it comes to tweaking the game’s display. A game that doesn’t fit properly on the screen is difficult to look at for long periods of time. By extension, HUD elements don’t look correct either.
TheUltrawide HUD & Crosshair Fixmod once again solves this problem rather well. Larger aspect ratios are accommodated and allow the gameplay to appear normal and unstretched. As a result, the player’s crosshairs will be fixed as well. This mod is newer than its counterpart, so it’s up to the player to decide which one they prefer.
1Capital Supremacy
The 2005 version ofStar Wars: Battlefront IIallows players to board capital ships and take them down from the inside. This feature returns in the form of Capital Supremacy mode in the 2017 reboot ofBattlefront II. This mod, also bearing the name ofCapital Supremacy, seeks to import this gameplay element intoRepublic Commando.
The mod isn’t finished yet, considering there’s a lot that goes into recreating that particularBattlefront IIgame mode. However, fans can still enjoy duking it out on a Separatist Dreadnought, one of the areas that’s been completely finished. If work continues, Capital Supremacy should turn out to be a truly impressive mod.
