Summary

Baldur’s Gate 3is a CRPG that is heavily based on the tabletop gameDungeons and Dragons. This therefore means, through the three acts of the title, players are either in turn-based combat or talking to the diverse cast of characters that make the world ofBaldur’s Gate 3feel alive. On some occasions, players can use the art of persuasion, deception, or intimate action to talk their way out of the situations that occur throughout the game.

In these moments, a player can even avoid a fight if they are able to successfully get the roll that is required of them. While some players may worry that this means they will miss out on experience to level up, Larian Studios is sure to reward players for their silver tongue bygiving them the XPthey would’ve earned through defeating them. With this in mind, these are the various fights players can avoid through dialogue.

8The Mercenary Band Don’t Want A Fight

Avoiding Bloodshed In Act Three

Even after defeating the Apostle of Myrkul in Act Two, there will still be regular enemies who think they have a chance at defeating the player and their incredibly powerful party. When entering the area just outside of Baldur’s Gate, players will spot some refuges that are in trouble with a noble person.

The player, being nice, may go and tell this noble to leave them be and allow them to stay in his home since he hasn’t even been there himself. Doing this will upset the mercenaries he has hired and they expect payment. Throughthe power of intimidation, the player can tell this woman and her band of thugs to leave both the player and the refuges alone.

7Goblins Are Cowards

Several Occasions In Act One

In the first act ofBaldur’s Gate 3, some various moments and activities will see the player avoid getting into combat. One such enemy that the player will likely always avoid verbally is the goblins that are looking for the Druid’s Grove.

Players can avoid various fights with these Goblins from the Ambush in the Blighted Village, scaring off the Goblins that have tied Barcus to the windmill, and getting past the goblins guarding their fort. While players may still be tempted to dispatch these goblins later, it makes exploring the first act far easier when they simply shoo them away.

Thisobald Thorm in BG3

6Sit Down For A Drink With Thisobald Thorm

Found In The Waning Moon During Act Two

Baldur’s Gate 3’ssecond act is another with various battles that can beeasily avoided with the right dialoguechoices. One great example of this is Thisobald Thorm, who claims Ketheric to be his father; though this can neither be confirmed nor denied. He can be found standing behind a bar in The Waning Moon encouraging the player to sit and drink with him.

This ginormous man appears to splitting in two because of how much of the ominous glowing brew he is consuming. The player can sit and tell him stories, succeeding in holding down their drink and impressing him with their tales before he eventually bursts from too much drink, leaving the player to roam the rest of the inn freely.

A Player talking to Gimblebock in Baldur’s Gate 3

5Gimblebock Knows When He’s Outmatched

By The Dank Crypt In Act One

Players are likely to encounter mercenaries at various moments of their adventure, but one of the earliest is a gnome called Gimblebock that has been attempting to get further into the crypt where Witchers can be found. Approaching the short-tempered gnome will cause him to threaten the player, as he assumes they are here to steal from the Nautiloid wreckage.

Players can either attack Gimblebock and his mercenaries that are outside the crypt or use one of their various charisma rolls to force Gimblebock to leave. While this may not be the hardest fight in the game, players may feel that it isn’t worth fighting him.

Speaking to Gerringothe Thorm in Baldur’s Gate 3

4Gerringothe Thorm Doesn’t Need Gold

Lurking Within The Toll House Of Act Two

Thisobald isn’t the only Thorm that can be persuaded and therefore drafted without starting a fight in the second act of the game. Gerringothe Thorm is a woman entirely made of gold that collects the toll. When encountering her, she won’t allow the player to pass unless they give her gold and if they refuse, she will fight them.

Themore gold the player has on them, the more damage she does. Thankfully, players can avoid this intense battle with the toll collector if they question why she is after gold. Persuading her to ‘give it back’ will cause her to instantly die as the gold explodes off her body.

3Gnolls Can Be Easily Persuaded With The Tadpole

Saving Folks From Gnolls In Act One

Fighting the Gnolls in the first act is arguably one of the hardest battles that surprises players when they first encounter them. However, it is possible to get the leader of these Gnolls to befriend the player and instead turn on her fellow Gnolls.

While this doesn’t entirely prevent the battle, it does stop players from battling her, and then, at the end of it, the player can even force her to kill herself after this and take the things from her body, making this moment even easier.

Malus Thorm in Baldur’s Gate 3

2Malus Thorm Teaching His Nurses

The House Of Healing Within Act Two

The final Thorm thatplayers can killwithout laying a finger on him is Malus Thorm. He can be found teaching his nurses in The House of Healing, how to tend to a patient, though to even the untrained eye it would appear that they are just torturing him.

Players can get Malus to defeat himself and his nurses in various ways, from telling him to get the sisters to practice on one another, and then to show an example of himself, to even getting the sisters to practice on Malus and therefore making the nurses not hostile after his defeat. This is arguably one of the most brutal things to witness in the second act, but well worth the experience.

1Yurgir Can Kill His Crew And Then Himself

The Gauntlet Of Shar In Act Two

Yurgir is an Orthon that is under the control of Raphael. He has been forced to kill Dark Justiciars for an eternity inThe Gauntlet of Sharand is unable to leave. If players want to help Astarion, this Orthon must be killed, but players have found this battle to be quite a challenge. However, Yurgir is another that can be tricked into defeating himself while still giving the player all the experience from it.

Players can first trick him into killing his Merregon troops, another roll is then required to get him to shoot his Displacer Beast before finally tricking him into killing himself, ending the dialogue and successfully doing as Raphael had asked. While the rolls may be challenging, players can initiate a quick save and quick load to make sure they succeed.
